Crosshill Volleyball Star Named Maps Girls Athlete of the Week
SALEM, Ore. – Crosshill’s standout volleyball player has been selected as the Maps Girls Athlete of the Week, recognizing a dominant season culminating in notable team and individual accolades. The declaration comes as the winter sports season gains momentum across the region.
The athlete, whose name has not been released, led Crosshill to a remarkable season, securing a Central Valley Conference championship and a runner-up finish at the OSAA 6A state tournament. Several other athletes were nominated for the weekly honor, including Emma Brewer of Sprague, a senior outside hitter named to the OSAA 6A all-state first team; Nelida Dalgas of North Salem, who qualified for Nike Cross Nationals after a fourth-place finish at the NXR Northwest Regional Championships in a time of 16 minutes, 55.9 seconds; Johanna Diaz of West salem soccer, the CVC player of the year; Brooke Friesen of Sprague volleyball, also an all-state first team selection; Haley Miersma of Amity soccer, who scored in the 3A/2A/1A state championship game and converted a penalty kick in the shootout; and Kylie Wilson of Amity soccer, who saved two penalties in the same championship shootout.
