Bomb Threat Grounds Saudia Flight in Indonesia

A Saudia Airlines flight bound for Surabaya made an emergency landing at Kualanamu Airport following a bomb threat. Emergency services are currently investigating the aircraft, with passengers safely in the airport’s waiting area.

Emergency Landing Details

The aircraft, en route to Surabaya, was diverted to Kualanamu Airport due to a bomb scare. Authorities immediately initiated an inspection of the plane. Ferry Walintukan, the North Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations, confirmed that the bomb squad (Jibom Brimob) was on-site, working to assess the situation.

All 376 passengers are reported to be in good health and are currently waiting at the airport. Regular flight schedules have not been disrupted by the emergency landing.

Previous Threat

This incident follows another bomb threat targeting the Muscat-Surabaya route. Fortunately, all 387 passengers from that flight were declared safe. According to the Head of the Medan SAR Office, Heri Marantika, the passengers were moved to the isolation or waiting area at KNIA International Airport and are safe.

In 2023, the Transportation Security Administration screened over 850 million passengers at U.S. airports, highlighting the scale of aviation safety efforts (TSA Report).

The authorities continue their investigation to determine the validity of the threat.
