Renewed Interest: Younger Europeans Increasingly ‌Eye ‌China for Career Opportunities

Beijing – Despite ongoing ⁣geopolitical tensions and post-pandemic challenges, a ‍growing ⁤number of young Europeans are expressing renewed‍ interest in pursuing career and entrepreneurial opportunities in China, according to a recent report by the South ⁢China Morning Post. This shift in attitude coincides with⁣ the 25th anniversary of the founding of⁣ the European Union ⁣Chamber of Commerce in China and ongoing formal diplomatic relations between China and⁣ the‍ European⁣ Union. ‍

The trend ⁤marks a ⁤cautious return following a period of⁣ departures⁢ prompted ⁤by stringent Covid-19 restrictions. While hurdles such as visa uncertainties and limited ⁣internet access remain, china’s potential in technology, entrepreneurship, and rapid progress is ‍proving attractive ⁤to a new generation. The SCMP series examining⁢ ties between the two powers reveals a generational divide, with younger Europeans demonstrating greater openness ⁤to engaging with⁢ the Chinese market.

“Its ⁣not just about career growth⁢ but also about being⁢ part of a system⁤ where things⁢ are changing ⁢fast,” said Simon⁤ Wold,⁢ a ‌Swedish student ⁢pursuing‍ a master’s in European intellectual property (IP) law at Stockholm University. He ⁢highlighted the appeal of working in a country where IP protection, while still developing, ⁣presents ⁤a ‍dynamic habitat compared to⁣ the more established systems in the EU.

Wold noted he might potentially be an “outlier” ⁤within his field, with many peers favoring career ⁤paths in Germany, Britain, the United States, or France. Though, he⁣ observed a broader curiosity among‌ younger people drawn to ⁣the growth‍ of cities like Shenzhen ‍and Shanghai⁤ and China’s overall ‌economic pace.

Ukraine: 1,200 Civilians Killed by Cassette Ammunition in Russia’s War

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 15, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Cassette Munition Use in Ukraine Results in Over 1,200 Civilian Casualties

The use of cluster munitions⁣ has resulted in more than 1,200 civilian deaths or injuries ‌in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion.

This is according to the Annual report of the International Coalition Against Cluster Munitions (CMC),an association advocating for the elimination of these weapons.

The report states⁢ that while Ukraine ⁢has also employed cluster munitions, Russia is deploying them ⁤”to a large extent” from the beginning of the war.

Since⁢ February 2022, Ukraine has recorded the ⁣highest‍ annual number ‍of‌ cluster munition casualties globally. At least 193 of the 314 civilian⁣ casualties recorded worldwide in 2023 occurred in Ukraine. The majority of the⁤ over 1,200 total casualties were recorded⁣ in the first year of the war.

The CMC⁤ emphasizes that this figure‍ is likely an underestimate, as approximately 40 attacks using cluster munitions in ‍Ukraine last year ‍lacked documented casualty numbers.

Cluster munitions are deployed from aircraft or ⁤artillery and disperse submunitions – smaller bombs – over a wide area. A critically important danger‍ remains ⁤after impact, as ‍many of these submunitions fail to explode and become landmines.

Currently, 124 countries⁢ have joined‍ the Convention on Cluster Munitions, with 112 having ratified it and 12 ⁢signing but not yet ratifying. Russia, Ukraine, and the United States are not signatories. Myanmar and Syria⁣ are the only othre countries where ‍cluster munition attacks were recorded in ‍the past year.

The ‌United States faced criticism⁢ in 2023 for its decision to supply cluster munitions to Ukraine, and the CMC report notes at⁣ least⁣ seven shipments have been delivered since then.

Lithuania became the ⁤first country to withdraw from the Convention in March 2024, citing⁢ regional security concerns. Poland, Latvia, Estonia, ‍and‌ Finland⁢ have also announced their intention to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention on anti-personnel landmines, citing fears of Russian aggression.

The⁤ CMC⁢ has highlighted “disturbing setbacks” globally ‌that threaten ⁤efforts to establish new international standards⁤ condemning the use of cluster munitions. (TASR)

Russian drones Briefly Violated Polish Airspace During⁢ Ukraine Attack,⁢ NATO‌ Confirms

Warsaw, Poland – on September 9th, during a ⁢large-scale drone attack on ⁤Ukraine, at least 19‌ Russian ⁣drones briefly entered Polish airspace, marking the first time in NATO history that enemy ⁢devices⁢ were intercepted within⁢ a ⁣member stateS territory. The Polish military ⁤responded by shooting down⁤ some of the drones,‍ prompting a swift reaction from NATO allies and⁢ raising questions about the evolving⁣ nature of the conflict.

The incursion occurred ‍as Russia launched⁢ over 400 drones targeting Ukrainian infrastructure.⁤ While ⁣the majority were intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses, a number strayed into poland,⁣ triggering a heightened state of ‍alert. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has linked the incident ⁣to‌ ongoing military exercises between Russia and Belarus, suggesting a possible rehearsal for aggression against a NATO country.

According to a timeline of events, Polish ‌surveillance and helicopter planes were deployed ‍to the border starting at 8:35 PM local time. Lublin airport was closed ⁤at 9:45 PM, followed shortly‍ by the‍ addition of an Italian surveillance plane.Warsaw’s main airports were shuttered at 11:00 PM as Patriot radars began detecting the drones. The first ⁤confirmed incursion into Polish airspace occurred ‌at 11:30 PM, coinciding with the resumption of flight by a Dutch fighter ‍jet.

Polish authorities confirmed that the drones originated from both Ukraine and Belarus ‌- an unprecedented advancement. The Polish army prioritized intercepting drones deemed to have destructive potential, deliberately avoiding engagements ‍over populated areas and allowing less threatening drones to pass through. ⁢ Debris from the downed drones⁢ was⁤ scattered⁣ across a wide area, ⁢with some remnants found as far as 450 kilometers from the‍ border.

Brussels – ‍ The‍ European ⁢Union ‌has launched a ‍comprehensive action plan backed by €3.8 ⁢billion (approximately $3.8‌ billion USD) to strengthen its automotive battery sector and secure a leading‌ role‌ in ⁤clean vehicle technology. The⁣ initiative, announced in March following a “strategic dialog” initiated⁢ in early 2025, aims to address growing ⁣concerns ‍over strategic dependencies and ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of‍ the European automotive ⁣industry.

Responding to shifting public opinion, European Commission ⁣President⁣ Ursula von der ‍Leyen emphasized‍ the EU’s⁤ commitment to innovation and the development of clean solutions, particularly in battery⁤ production. “We want to strengthen production locally ‍to avoid strategic addictions, especially in battery,” von der Leyen stated, while reaffirming previously accepted emission goals with a pledge for⁣ a “pragmatic, flexible approach.”

The⁤ plan prioritizes the‌ creation of cost-competitive battery cell production ‌within ‍Europe and maximizing European added value throughout the entire supply chain. Key components of the initiative include:

*⁤ ⁤ Direct support for the battery industry ⁣via the ‌Innovation Fund.
* ⁢ Joint public‍ and private investment‍ through the horizon ⁢Europe ⁤program.
* The “Battery Booster” package, offering financing and credit⁣ programs for EU cell and component manufacturers.

EU Data Act: More Control Over Your Smart Device Data

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 13, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

New EU Data Access Rule Empowers Consumers, Sparks Industry Debate

brussels, Belgium – ‌A new European Union‌ regulation granting consumers greater control over the data generated by their connected devices took effect today, impacting⁣ everything from smartphones and smart TVs to coffee machines and cars. ‍The ⁢rule mandates‍ manufacturers provide users with simple access to the data their devices collect, with standardized interfaces required by 2026.

the legislation aims to give individuals the power to preserve, delete, or‌ transfer their data to third parties,⁤ possibly simplifying‍ repairs, lowering service costs,‌ and fostering new business opportunities. Such as, sharing⁢ car driving data could lead to reduced insurance‌ premiums.

Manufacturers are now obligated to clearly ‌inform ⁣consumers about what data is being recorded and ensure easy⁤ access, either directly on the device or through an online interface. The EU anticipates this increased data flow will stimulate new business models and strengthen the digital economy. Authorities may also gain access to certain data‍ in ⁣specific situations, such as natural disasters.

The law also extends ⁤to large cloud⁣ providers, requiring them to protect user⁤ data and facilitate easier switching between providers.

However, concerns have been raised regarding the law’s effectiveness. ⁤Critics ‌argue numerous ‌exceptions and complex details could hinder enforcement, potentially limiting consumers’ ability to fully exercise their new rights. Some describe the regulation as a “mistaken opportunity.”

Industry reaction is mixed.German industrial and digital federations have voiced concerns⁣ about transparency and potential overreach into contractual autonomy. Conversely, others beleive the‍ law could ‌ultimately promote the advancement of data-driven business models within Europe.

Trump Urges Tariffs on China, Russia Over Ukraine Oil Sales

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 13, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

China Voices Concerns as US Escalates Pressure Over⁤ Russian Oil trade

BEIJING – China has cautioned against “unilateral actions” impacting its interests, as the United States increases pressure on Western allies to levy⁤ substantial tariffs on China and India for continuing to purchase Russian ‌oil, a move Washington ‌alleges supports Russia‘s invasion ⁤of Ukraine. The escalating tensions come amid a ⁣renewed ‍push from former US President Donald ‍trump for stronger economic measures against both Russia and countries perceived⁤ to be enabling its⁣ war ‍effort.

The dispute centers on ‍the continued flow of revenue to Russia thru oil ⁢sales, despite international ⁢sanctions. The US ⁣argues that China ⁣and India’s purchases allow Russia to ‌circumvent the financial impact of those sanctions, prolonging the conflict in Ukraine. This situation presents a complex geopolitical challenge, ⁢perhaps reshaping global energy markets and trade relationships. The outcome will‌ likely influence the duration and intensity of ⁣the Ukraine war, as well as the ‌broader balance of power between⁢ the US, China, and russia.

On Saturday,⁤ Trump sent a letter to NATO members, urging them to cease buying Russian oil and⁣ collectively impose significant sanctions on Russia to hasten an end to the war. He also proposed tariffs ranging ⁣from 50 to 100 percent ⁢on China, asserting that ‍Beijing ⁣wields considerable ⁣influence over Moscow.

Trump publicly stated his willingness to implement “major sanctions on Russia when all Nato nations have agreed, and ‍started,to do the same thing, and when all Nato nations stop buying oil from Russia.”‍ He ‍further claimed, “China ⁢has a strong control, and even grip, ‌over Russia,” and that substantial tariffs “will break that grip.”

Beyond the call ⁤for NATO action,‍ Trump has also‌ threatened to impose secondary sanctions on countries -‌ specifically naming‍ China and India – ‌that continue to buy ⁢Russian⁢ oil.⁢ This move would penalize entities doing business with those nations, potentially disrupting global ‌trade flows and escalating⁤ economic tensions.
