Norway Shatters EV Sales Record: nearlyโ 98% of Newโ Carsโค Sold in November are Electric
Oslo, Norway – December 4, 2025 – Norway โฃexperiencedโ an unprecedented surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption in November, with fully โคelectric cars accounting for a remarkableโฃ 97.6% of all new โคcar sales. This represents a 70% increase in overall carโ sales compared to the same โขperiod last โคyear, driven by consumer anticipation of upcoming tax changes.
The dramatic shift underscoresโฃ Norway’s position as a global โleader in sustainable transportation and signals a potentialโ tipping pointโ for EV adoption across Europe. The countryโ is on track to become the first nation to effectively phase out sales โคof new gasoline and diesel vehicles by the end of 2025, achieving this ambitious goal โฃthrough incentives, โขinfrastructure development, and โขmarket-driven policies rather than โoutright bans. โฃ
Leading the charge in this electric revolution is Tesla, which โขsurpassed its previousโ annual sales record a month before year-end. Theโค American EV manufacturer sold 6,215 vehicles in November alone, bringing its total salesโฃ for the first eleven months ofโฃ 2025โ to 28,606 units – exceeding the 26,575 unitsโ Volkswagenโ sold across all of 2016. The Tesla Model Y was the primary driver of this success, contributing significantly to the company’s 34.6% sales increase.
“There is a real carโ bonanza in Norway at the moment,” stated Geir Inge Stokke, directorโค general of the Norwegian Road Traffic Information Council (OFV),to Reuters. The surge in purchases is largely โattributed to buyers rushingโ to acquire EVs before new taxes are implemented in January 2026.
