Poland and Greece Advance to EuroBasket Final Phase in Riga
RIGA, Latvia – Poland and Greece have secured their places in the final phase of EuroBasket, joining previously qualified teams Germany, Turkey, Serbia, and Finland. The advancement comes after Poland defeated Iceland 84-75 in Katowice, while Greece won their match, details of which were not promptly available.
Poland’s victory in Sub-group D saw a final score of 84-75 (19-16, 22-16, 20-19, 23-24). George Loyd led the Polish team with 26 points, complemented by matthew Ponitka’s 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. Dominic Olejniczak contributed 12 points and seven rebounds for Poland.
For iceland, Trigvi Hlinason recorded 21 points and ten rebounds, while Elvars Fridriksson added 13 points.
Elsewhere in EuroBasket action, Slovenia achieved its first win, defeating Belgium 86-69, and Israel suffered an upset loss to France, 82-69.

In a Group C match played in limassol, Italy defeated bosnia and herzegovina 96-79 (22-21, 22-19, 28-21, 24-18). simone Fontecchio led Italy with 39 points and eight rebounds, setting a new scoring record for the national team.
