Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour to be Chronicled in New Disney+ Documentaryโ and Concert Film
Taylor Swiftโ announced Monday morning โคthat a โคnew documentary and concert film capturing her record-breaking โEras Tour will premiere onโ Disney+ and โคHulu. The projectsโฃ will bypass theatrical release, aโ departure from โฃher previousโ concert film, “Taylor Swift: Theโ Eras Tour,” which debuted in cinemas in late 2023.
Speculation about additional film projects arose in December 2023 when fans noticed โcamera crews documenting the final show of the Eras Tour in Vancouver, B.C., beyond what was needed for arena โscreens.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” became โthe highest-grossing concert movie ever, and upon its arrival on Disney+ in April 2024, โit set a record for initial streaming of a concert film, garnering 4.6 million views in its first threeโฃ days. This success followed Swift’s positive experience with Disney+’s handling of herโข 2020 documentary, “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions.” Swift โhas previously released concert films and documentaries through Netflix and Apple.
Prior to theโฃ Disney+ announcement, Swift โคgenerated notable revenue for theaters with “Taylor Swift: the Release Party of a Showgirl,” a promotional event for her latestโฃ album, whichโข grossed $33 million in a three-day run.
The announcement came on ABC, a network ownedโ by Disney, โandโฃ followed appearances on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late night โฃwith Seth Meyers,” which boosted โขratings for both programs.โฃ “The โฃTonight Show” achieved its best ratings in the 18-to-49 demographic in eight โฃmonths, while “Late Night” saw its largest audience in that demo โคsince January.
Swift’s latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” broke the record for first-week album sales, previously held by โคAdele‘s “25” for ten years, in just five days.
