England WU20s Begin Spain Camp with Narrow Victory Over China PR
Murcia, Spain – England’s under-20 women’s team launched their readiness for the 2024 FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 win against China PR on Wednesday afternoon at the Pinatar Arena. The match marks the first of three scheduled games in Spain for head coach Lauren smith’s squad.
England took the lead in the 17th minute through lois Shooter, capitalizing on a rebound after vivienne Lia’s shot struck the crossbar. China PR responded just before the hour mark, leveling the score and threatening to secure a draw.
However,a late penalty awarded to England in the final minute proved decisive,with substitute Ava Baker converting the spot-kick to seal the 2-1 victory.
The Young Lionesses will continue their Spanish training camp with a fixture against the USA on Saturday at 12pm GMT.
