OL3 produces electricity with a power of approximately 960 megawatts while the cause of the disturbance is being investigated, says Teollisuuden Voima’s communications manager Johanna Aho.
According to Aho’s estimate, electricity production will be able to be increased after 6 pm today. The normal power of the OL3 reactor is about 1,600 megawatts.
Olkiluoto 2’s electricity production is currently suspended due to rotor repair work. The damaged rotor is replaced with a new one.
O2’s electricity production will start on Sunday, October 6 with limited power, as the cause of the rotor failure has not been determined.

The impact of Olkiluoto 2’s production shutdown on the electricity market has so far been minor, says Fingrid’s senior expert Jani Pelvo.
– The electricity market has been able to fix it easily. Estonia’s exports have been reduced, and in Finland, hydropower and a little bit of other power, which was at a rather low power, have been adjusted slightly upwards.
“Fortunate Moment”
Olkiluoto 2’s share of the entire electricity production in Finland is considerable, on average around 8 percent. For Säide, the break happened at a “lucky moment”, says Pelvo.
– Now that Finland’s electricity consumption is still at summer readings and the warm weather continues, the effect is quite small. According to Pelvo, equilibrium can be found in the market in any situation.
– The electricity market reacts to it to the extent of the capacity that the border connection has, i.e. exports turn into imports. And there is power plant capacity in Finland that is not currently in operation. After all, we have to make it through the winter here, when electricity consumption can be 13,000 megawatts, or 5,000 more than now.
According to Teollisuuden Voima’s notice of disruption, production is at a standstill until September 29. Pelvo believes that electricity producers and thus the market will be moderately confident in the announcement.
– In general, TVO’s announcements have been quite accurate – at least as far as the maintenance times of rotating plants are concerned.

According to the Meteorological Institute of Ukraine, the pollution of the waters of the Desna and Seim rivers, which originate in Russia, can affect the quality of Kyiv’s drinking water, reports the Ukrainian media TSN.
The Desna is the longest of the tributaries of the Dnieper River that flows through Kyiv, and according to the publication, the polluted water will reach the water intake point in Desnianskyi, the capital of Ukraine, between the 10th and 12th. September
At the same time, a message has started circulating on Ukrainian social media channels, urging the people of Kyiv to store water for five days’ needs.
According to TSN, the head of the health protection department in Kyiv by Valentina Ginzburg has allegedly sent a letter to the heads of municipal treatment facilities warning that Russia has released harmful substances into the rivers flowing into Ukraine, which significantly affect water quality.
Contaminated water is said to be a “real threat” to human health, which is why the letter calls for water storage. According to TSN, the authenticity of the letter has not been verified.
The call to store water has scared many Kyivites. However, according to the Kyivvodokanal company responsible for Kyiv’s water supply, the situation is under control and the water is still safe to use.
If deviations are found in the water samples taken from the Desna river, the authorities and Kyivvodokanal will immediately take action, the company says in a press release.
