[ジャカルタ 8日 ロイター] – Indonesia has announced that it has postponed the test run of a high-speed rail linking Jakarta and Bandung, West Java, which was scheduled for the 18th, until next month.

Indonesia-China joint venture operator KCIC Indonesia said it needed more time to ensure passenger safety and comfort.

The project is part of China’s One Belt, One Road initiative and was scheduled to be completed by 2019. It also cost $1.2 billion more than originally planned.

KCIC has postponed test runs with passengers to early September, but said it will not delay the start of service on October 1.

[キーウ 8日 ロイター] – The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) announced on the 8th that it had thwarted an attempt by Russian hackers to gain unauthorized access to the Ukrainian military’s combat information systems.

The SBU thwarted attempts to access sensitive information about the location, movements and technical assistance of Ukrainian forces. They say the Russian hacker group known as “Sandworm” was behind it.

Since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Ukraine has reported an increase in cyberattacks against government and military institutions, as well as the energy sector. Russia has repeatedly denied any involvement.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Antarctic sea ice extent has shrunk to its lowest level on record this year as a result of rising global temperatures. Researchers say there is no quick fix to recoup this loss.

A study published in the journal Frontiers in Environmental Science found that Antarctica’s sea ice extent shrank last year to 2 million square kilometers for the first time since satellite observations began in 1978. , but this year it decreased further and reached a record low.

“It will take decades, if not centuries, for this situation to improve,” said Caroline Holmes, a polar climate scientist at the British Antarctic Regional Observatory and one of the study’s co-authors. He pointed out that there is no immediate remedy.

Tim Naish, director of the Antarctic Research Center at Victoria University Wellington in New Zealand, said this year’s sea ice extent is 20% below the 40-year average. Its size is nearly ten times the size of New Zealand.

“In some cases, we are approaching a limit, which once exceeded will lead to irreversible changes with consequences that future generations will not be able to stop,” Naish said.

Global warming, fueled by the burning of fossil fuels, would make Antarctica more vulnerable to extreme events, the impacts of which would “virtually certainly” get worse, the paper said.

It was the first official statement of death by ISIS since Turkish President Erdogan said in April that Turkish intelligence services had killed a fourth man in Syria.

ISIS said the fourth was killed during a shootout with another extremist group, the Tahrir Al-Sham Organization (HTS).

The fourth generation took over the leadership after the third generation died in Syria last November.

Tesla’s China EV Sales Drop 31% in July, BYD Gains Ground

According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on the 3rd, US electric vehicle (EV) giant Tesla sold 64,285 new EVs made in China in July, down 31% from the previous month. Photo taken in January 2021 (2023 REUTERS/Tingshu Wang/File Photo)

BEIJING/SHANGHAI (Reuters) – U.S. electric vehicle giant Tesla’s sales of new EVs made in China in July fell 31% from the previous month, according to data released on Monday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). It was 4,285 units. It is the first time in seven months since December last year that the number has decreased. Buyers shifted to cheaper electric vehicles, and China’s BYD extended its lead over Tesla.

Tesla was 2.28 times more than the same month last year (28,217 units). In July last year, production was curtailed due to renewal work at the Shanghai factory.

BYD, which develops the Dynasty and Ocean series of EV and hybrid vehicles, sold 261,105 new passenger cars in July, up 61% year-on-year (of which 18,169 were exported).

Tesla has prioritized sales growth over profits this year, cementing its popularity in China, the world’s largest auto market. On the other hand, Chinese automakers will exceed 50% of new car sales in the first half of 2023 for the first time.

Tesla was the only foreign automaker to gain market share in China in the first half, according to Chinese industry data. The number of deliveries in the second quarter of 2011 reached a record high of 156,676 units.

By contrast, BYD outsold Tesla by 29% in EV sales in China in the first half. The low-end Dolphin has outsold Tesla’s Model 3.

The CPCA will release detailed data for July later this month.

[モスクワ 21日 ロイター] – Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Bershinin on Monday accused Ukraine of using the Black Sea grain export corridor to launch a “terrorist attack” against Russia’s national interests.

Bershinin explained Russia’s suspension of the agreement to export grains via the Black Sea (Black Sea Initiative). He claimed that a memorandum of understanding pledged to promote exports of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers had been ignored.

He also said that Ukraine had used the corridor for military purposes, although he did not provide specific evidence. It said the corridor had been used for “terrorist attacks”, including on the bridge connecting southern Russia with Crimea.
