Seoul,South Korea – November 3,2025 โข- Director Bang Mi-ri defines salvation as “the act of letting โgo โฃof one’s shackles,” as revealed in a โคrecent interview โwith Elleโข Korea regarding โher newโข film,The Saver of life, opening Novemberโฃ 5th. โThe โfilmโ explores themes of life, death, and the meaning ofโค family following a tragic fire.
Bang Mi-ri explains the โfilm’s central characters, se-jeong (played โby Kim Pureum) and Eun-sook (played by song Seon-mi), โคachieve salvation โขthrough mutual โคsupport. Se-jeong, burdened by guilt, finds freedomโข throughโ Eun-sook’sโข simple affirmation: “Your birthday is a day that can โbeโข celebrated.” conversely, Eun-sook finds purpose in being remembered by Se-jeong.
The director emphasizes her intention to move beyond a “grayish socialโค accusation” โfrequently enough associated withโฃ stories of hardship, aimingโข rather to showcase Se-jeong’s “vitality.” Bang Mi-riโ describes family not asโค a matter of blood relation, butโ as “people who remember each other in a specialโ way,” โคcelebrating milestones and preserving memories.
Regarding her direction โof the lead actresses, Bang Mi-ri requested Kimโ Pureum portray Se-jeong โwith “firmness,” as “a child whoโ does not lose his or herโค light even when the world is โขdark.” โ For Song Seon-mi, she โsought to capture the “ambiguity” ofโค Eun-sook, a character who appears both potentiallyโ benevolent and deceptive.
Reflecting on the filmmaking process,Bang Mi-ri โฃstated she “felt the importance of people” and realized “nothing can be accomplished alone.” She intends โto exploreโ darker themes ofโ human interaction in future projects, describing them as stories of “humans meeting and destroying each other.”
