Macron Reappoints Sรฉbastien Lecornu as Prime Minister Amid Political Turmoil
PARIS โค- French President Emmanuel macron has reappointed Sรฉbastienโข lecornu โas Prime โขMinister, the โรlysรฉe Palace announced today, following Lecornu’s recent resignation after just 27 days in office. Lecornu, 39, will be tasked with forming a new government, becoming โthe fifth and sixth prime minister of France in the last two years.
“Iโ accept – out of duty – the task that was entrusted to me,” โคLecornu stated โขon X (formerly Twitter).โ He added that the new government “will have to beโข the embodiment of renewal” and โpledged open parliamentaryโ debate on โคissues raised during recent consultations withโฃ political parties.
Theโ reappointment comes after days โof intensive negotiations and internal disputes within lecornu’s โขpreviously appointedโฃ government, leading to his initial resignation. โค
The move is widely seen as a critical โattempt by Macron toโข revitalize his second term, which is slatedโ to run until โ2027. Macron currently lacks a parliamentary majority โคand facesโข increasing criticism, even โคfrom within his own support โคbase.
Opposition parties have already voiced their disapproval. Jordan Bardella, leader of the โfar-right National Rally โฃ(RN), โฃwho has repeatedly called for โnew parliamentary elections, condemned Lecornu’s reappointmentโ asโ “a bad jokeโฃ and humiliation of theโฃ French,” and stated โhis party will not support the โnew government. Jean-Luc Mรฉlenchon, leader of the far-left France Unbowed (LFI), described the situation as “a comedy.”
