Andrej Babiลก Hospitalized after Alleged Assault at Campaign Rally
Dobrรก, Czech Republic – โฃFormer Czech โฃPrime Minister โAndrej Babiลก was taken to a hospital Monday after being struck in the head withโข crutches during โขa campaign rally in the village of Dobrรก, Frรฝdek-Mรญstek region. The incident occurred asโ Babiลก, chairman of โthe ANO movement and a candidate inโข the Moravian-silesian Region, was meeting with supporters.
According โto Aleลกโ Juchelka, a deputyโ with ANO, an individual in the crowd attacked Babiลก, hitting him on the headโ with his crutches. “Yes, I can confirm thatโ the president was attacked by one of the citizens with crutches. Theโฃ man slammed him in his head,” Juchelka told news server Novinky.cz. Babiลก immediately sought medical attention, prompting the cancellation of the remainder of his scheduled campaign appearances for the day.
Juchelka โขstated that detailsโ regarding Babiลก’s condition are currently unavailable. The incident has drawn immediate condemnation from political โfigures, including Interior Ministerโค Vรญt Rakuลกan (STAN), who posted on Instagram: “Violence in any form is unacceptable and does notโ solve anything. Today’s attack โฃon Andrej Babiลก clearly condemns.”
Jan Havelรญฤek, vice-chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, also commented on the incident via social media, warning that the increasingly hostile political climate could โฃlead to further violence.
As of this report, neither the police on the scene nor Babiลก himself have โฃissued a statement. The investigation is ongoing.
