Slippery โคRoads Cause Chaos: 85 Accidents Reported inโ Upper Lusatia adn Ore Mountains
Gรถrlitz, โฃGermany – Police in Gรถrlitzโค are โwarning โฃdrivers of dangerously slippery roadโฃ conditions following โคa surgeโ inโฃ accidents overnight and โคWednesday morning. Authorities have recorded at least 85 incidents across Upper Lusatia โขand theโข Ore Mountains since Tuesday evening, with the majority occurring byโค Wednesday morning.
The Gรถrlitz police command and situation center reported over a dozen slippery accidents in Upper Lusatiaโค alone. Officials emphasized that side roads, particularly those not yet cleared of snow and ice, pose the greatest risk.
Disruptions were alsoโ reported on the B6 (Gรถrlitz – Bautzen) between Eiserode and the junction to Sornรig,โ where several โtrucks became stranded due toโ the slick conditions. Accidents along Nieskyer Straรe, between Gรถrlitz and the B6,โ prompted a temporary road closure.
Further north, the S95 โbetween Leppersdorf and Radeberg was closed โfor four hours Wednesday morning following a serious two-vehicle collision. At approximately 7:30 a.m., one vehicle crossed โinto the oncoming lane,โ striking a guardrail.The driver sustainedโ minor injuries. However, โthe driver of a secondโ vehicle, which collided with the initial crash site, was seriously injured.Police estimate โขproperty damage to exceed 80,000 euros.
On the A4 highway, a tractor-trailer traveling towards Gรถrlitz โฃlost control and impacted โฃthe right guardrailโฃ between Bautzen-ostโข and โWeiรenberg. While no injuries โwere reported, the incident caused a โtemporary closure and resulted in approximately 10,000 euros in โdamages.
Police are urgingโฃ drivers to exercise extreme caution, โฃreduce โขspeed, and be prepared โขfor icy conditions, especially on untreated โroadways.
