Latvia will be represented by Atvara and her song “Ēnā” at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria, after winning the national selection competition “Supernova” on Saturday, February 14th. The announcement came during a live broadcast of the final round of the competition, organized by Latvia’s Public Broadcasting (LSM).

Atvara secured her victory over nine other finalists, including Kautkaili, who placed second with “Te un tagad,” and Emilija, who finished third with “All We Ever Had.” Robert Ox, Miks Galvanovskis, TIKASHA SAKAMA, “ELPO,” “De Mantra,” LEGZDINA, and Krisy rounded out the top ten.

The selection process involved a combined assessment from an LSM-appointed jury comprised of Latvian music industry professionals, event organizers, television representatives, and international experts. LSM has chosen to withhold the names of the jury members until after the Eurovision contest in May, citing security concerns.

Atvara’s path to Eurovision began with her debut single, “Pie manis tveries,” which gained popularity on TikTok and was featured in the Latvian television series “Nelūgtie viesi.” She has since collaborated with Intars Busulis on the song “Vai drīkst kāpt dziļāk,” and her recent single, “Dzīve mūs mētā,” continues to build her profile within the Latvian music scene. Last summer, Atvara completed a sold-out run of nine solo concerts and also served as a co-host for the inaugural music awards show, “GAMMA.”

According to LSM, a total of 124 songs were submitted for consideration in this year’s “Supernova” competition. The initial submissions were narrowed down to 24 songs by the LSM jury, with ten ultimately advancing to the final after two semi-final rounds held on January 31st and February 7th.

Latvia will perform in the second half of the second semi-final on May 14th. Other countries competing in the second semi-final include Armenia, Romania, Switzerland, Azerbaijan, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Czechia, Albania, Denmark, Cyprus, Norway, Malta, Australia, and Ukraine. The grand final is scheduled for May 16th in Vienna.
