Lamongan, Indonesiaโข – โฃ the Lamongan Regency Health Service (Dinkes) โis actively working to bolster protection against diphtheria and tetanus among elementary schoolโ children through a โขtargeted immunization campaign launched this week. โHealth officials โขare administering Diphtheria-Tetanus (DT) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) โvaccines to students across the โregency.
This initiative forms part of the National Routine Immunizationโข program, designed to ensure elementary-aged โขchildren develop robust โimmunity โagainst these perhaps life-threatening bacterial infections. Diphtheria โand tetanus can cause severe โrespiratory problems, โคmuscle spasms, โขand even death, especially in unvaccinated populations.
According to dr. Yany Khoirurakhmawati, representative for Disease Prevention and Control (P2P)โข atโข the Lamonganโฃ Health โOffice, DT immunization is โฃspecifically for first-grade studentsโค to establish โearly protection. “This immunization is given to grade 1 โelementary school students throughout Lamongan Regency,” she stated, noting โคa current target of โข17,443 children, with 2,600โ already vaccinated as of mid-November 2025.
The Health Office aims to complete the DT vaccinations by december 2025, ensuring all first-graders are safeguarded.Together, โขfifth-gradeโค students are receiving Td immunization, targeting 16,326 children, with 1,680 vaccinated to โคdate.
“God willing, before the end of the year all targetsโค can be achieved. We want to ensure that Lamongan children have strong โฃimmune โsystems, especiallyโฃ as they approach their teenage years,” dr. โคYany added.
The program underscores โขthe Lamongan Regency GovernmentSโ commitment to โฃfostering a healthy and resilient young generation, free โฃfrom โขthe threat of infectious diseases. Parents are encouraged toโ support the โinitiativeโค by ensuring their children โคreceiveโฃ vaccinations according to theโ scheduled timeline.
