Istanbul, Turkey – Four individuals have been arrested inโ connection with the deaths of two Dutch brothers, aged 15 and 17, who wereโข found dead in their Istanbul hotel room last week, accordingโ to reports from Turkish media.
Theโค brothers were on โขvacation with their father whenโค they became ill afterโค visiting โคtwo eateries in the Taksim district of Istanbul on August 21.โค They subsequently feltโ unwell and remained in theirโ hotel room. Hotel staff discovered the โคboys โdeceased on August 22 when they wentโ to check on โคthe room as โthe family had not checked out.
The arrestedโ individuals โareโ reportedlyโค the owners and โtwo employees of the two Istanbul cateringโ establishments where the brothers consumed food and beverages. Authorities are investigating whether โขthe food or โdrinks consumed at these establishments contributed to their deaths.
The boys’ father was hospitalizedโข in critical condition butโ has since beenโค discharged from the hospital.It remains โunclear if he also ate or drank at the same establishments. He โฃreportedly stated heโ did not enjoy โthe food, but the cause of his illness โis currently unknown and may be related to shock following the loss of his sons.
Following interrogation,โ three of the detainees were released conditionally, โขwhile the fourth โhas been placed under house arrest. The โspecific roles of thoseโ arrested have not โคyet been disclosed as the police investigation remains ongoing.
Samples of food โand beverages from both establishments haveโฃ been sentโข to a forensic institute in Turkeyโข for analysis, according to reports. The investigation aims โto determine the cause of death and whether any substances โขconsumed โคcontributed to โthe tragedy.
