simon Lawโ volunteers โฃwill assist Land of โLincoln Legal Aid at a name changeโ clinic Friday,Nov. โฃ7, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Ten attorneys fromโ Simon Law โwill be โon-site to help โฃprocess paperwork for individualsโฃ seeking legal nameโฃ changes.
The โclinic provides a critical service for survivors of domestic โคviolence, who โฃmay see a nameโ change as a final step toward safety, and for transgender individuals affirming their gender โidentity.
“For some people, changing their name is their last step in their survivalโ from โฃa domestic violence situation,” saeid Clarissa Gaff, โexecutive director of Land of โขLincoln Legal Aid. “For others, it’s another step โฃto becoming the gender they’ve always identified with. Our โvolunteers โhear all kinds of reasons people want to change their names and we are happyโฃ to help them make โขit their โnew reality.”

Simon, founder โof Simon Law, emphasized theโฃ firm’s commitment to accessโข to โjustice. “We were honored โขwhen Land of Lincoln asked us to participate in โsuch a โขmeaningful event for โฃthose in need, andโค we are grateful for organizations like Land of Lincoln Legal Aid thatโ exist toโ ensure people have access to legalโ assistance regardlessโ of their income.”
Legalโฃ name changes can provide meaningfulโข benefits beyond safety โand identity affirmation, including correcting discrepancies on officialโข documents and facilitating โaccessโค to services. โขLand of Lincoln Legal Aid offers free civil legal servicesโ to low-income individuals in 65 Illinois counties.
