Title: Trump Claims Final Say on Potential Federal Payments in Investigations

by Priya Shah – Business Editor October 22, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Trump Claims⁢ He Would Decide How to‍ Use‌ Funds From ⁤potential Federal Settlements

WASHINGTON – Former President‌ Donald ⁤Trump indicated he⁣ would have ultimate⁢ control over any funds he receives through ⁤claims filed⁤ with the ⁢Justice Department⁢ seeking damages related to investigations‌ he deems politically motivated. Trump revealed his interest in “compensation” during ⁣a recent White House appearance with attorney Todd‍ Blanche, former FBI Director‍ Kash Patel, and Attorney General Pam ⁢Bondi.

The claims, filed as part of a process to resolve federal complaints without litigation, include one seeking damages over the search ‍of his Mar-a-Lago estate and the subsequent case alleging mishandling of classified documents. The other relates to the long-concluded Trump-Russia investigation.Trump described a ⁣hypothetical scenario ‌where he would negotiate ‍a⁢ settlement amount while facing ⁢a lawsuit as president, stating, “I’ll say, ‘Give me X‌ dollars,’ and I don’t know what to do with the lawsuit.”

One administrative claim, filed‌ in August 2024, alleges a “malicious prosecution” by the Biden administration, claiming Trump spent “tens of millions of dollars” defending himself. This claim stems ‍from the‍ investigation led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, which was paused in November due to Department of Justice policy ‍against indicting a sitting president.

The Justice Department stated that all officials adhere‌ to guidance from career ethics ‌officials. A‍ White House spokesperson deferred comment to the Justice Department. Notably, Todd Blanche has been appointed as the deputy attorney general at the Justice department, and Stanley Woodward, ⁢the current associate attorney ‌general, previously ⁣represented Trump’s co-defendant in the classified documents case, Walt Nauta.

China Accuses⁢ U.S. of Cyberattacks Targeting National Time⁢ center

BEIJING (AP) – China’s Ministry of State Security on Sunday accused the U.S. National Security Agency ⁤of conducting cyberattacks against its National Time Service Center,⁢ alleging the intrusions could have⁣ jeopardized critical infrastructure. The ministry claims the attacks,⁣ spanning 2022-2024, targeted the center’s network systems and attempted to infiltrate ‌a key timing system.

The allegations come ‍amid ⁣heightened tensions between ‍the U.S. and China over trade, technology, and geopolitical issues, and follow‌ years ⁣of reciprocal accusations of cyber espionage. The National Time Service Center⁤ is ⁢responsible ⁤for generating and distributing china’s standard ⁤time, a crucial function for communications, finance,⁢ power, transport,⁤ and defense sectors. Disruption to this system, according to the ministry, could have ⁤had widespread consequences.

According to a WeChat‌ post ⁣by ‍the Ministry of State Security, the NSA exploited vulnerabilities in the messaging services of an unnamed foreign mobile‍ phone ‌brand to⁤ steal⁣ information from staff devices at the ⁣center ⁣in 2022. Between 2023 and 2024, the agency ⁢allegedly deployed 42 ⁢types of “special cyberattack weapons” in ⁢attempts to breach the center’s internal networks. The ministry ‍stated it possesses⁤ evidence of the attacks⁤ but did not publicly release it.

“The U.S.‌ is accusing others of what⁢ it does itself, repeatedly hyping up claims about Chinese cyber threats,” the ⁢ministry stated.

Western governments have ‍previously accused hackers linked to the Chinese⁢ government of targeting officials, journalists, and corporations. The U.S. Embassy has not yet commented on the latest allegations.

No Kings: Protests Against Trump Sweep the U.S

Nationwide protests Signal Growing Opposition to Trump

WASHINGTON (AP) – Demonstrations dubbed “No Kings” took place across the nation this⁣ weekend, signaling a resurgence in organized opposition to former President Donald Trump and his political agenda.the⁤ protests, organized by a coalition of progressive groups, drew participants to⁤ over 2,100 registered locations in⁤ June, ⁤building on momentum from a national march in April that saw 1,300⁤ registered locations.

The demonstrations reflect a broader ‌shift within the Democratic Party, which has sought to⁢ regain its footing in challenging Trump’s‍ influence following his return to the political ‍arena. The protests are ⁣occurring against the backdrop of a looming goverment ⁤shutdown, as Democrats refuse to vote on Republican-led⁢ legislation to reopen the government without ‌funding for healthcare initiatives. This standoff is viewed by ‌many Democrats as a critical ‍opportunity to push back against what they⁣ perceive as ⁤an overreach of executive power.

Former presidential contender Bernie Sanders⁤ characterized the protests as “a love ⁣America rally,” stating in ⁤a Facebook post,⁤ “It’s a rally of millions of people all over⁤ this ⁢country who believe in our ⁢Constitution, who believe⁤ in American freedom and…are not going to let you and Donald Trump turn this country into an authoritarian society.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., dismissed the protests, suggesting they would be populated by “antifa types,” people who “hate capitalism” ⁣and “Marxists in ‌full display.” House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries countered, stating, ⁣”What’s hateful is what happened on January 6th,” referencing the 2021 Capitol attack. “What‍ you’ll see this weekend ‌is what patriotism looks like.”

The⁣ growing‍ demonstrations come after a period of internal division within the Democratic Party, with ⁤some members criticizing ‌Senate Majority Leader⁤ Chuck Schumer for allowing an earlier government funding bill to pass without leveraging it to challenge Trump. Political analyst Marc Levin noted, “What we are seeing from the Democrats is ⁤some spine. the worst thing the Democrats could⁤ do right now is⁣ surrender.”

The protests represent a notable escalation in organized resistance to Trump, and underscore the deep political divisions continuing to shape the American landscape.

Title: Trump Plans Paris-Style Arch Near Lincoln Memorial

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 17, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

WASHINGTON ⁤- former President ‌Donald Trump is pursuing plans to construct a triumphal⁣ arch near the Washington Monument,⁣ inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and possibly funded ⁢by donations exceeding the cost of a ⁣recently renovated White House ballroom. The proposal,⁤ revealed during a recent dinner with supporters, envisions the arch standing at ⁤the Washington end of ⁤Memorial ‌Bridge, overlooking the Potomac River.

Trump reportedly showcased three different sized models of the arch⁤ at the dinner, stating his‍ preference for⁢ the largest design, which would feature a statue of Lady Liberty ⁤atop.⁣ He indicated that contributions for the ⁣ballroom renovation were so significant, funds may remain to finance the arch’s construction, stating,”It’s fully taken care‌ of now and, actually,we’ll have money⁢ left over and we’ll use⁢ that for something…We’ll use that⁣ probably maybe for the arch or something else that ⁢will come. But we⁣ love to ⁣fix up Washington.”

The idea for a⁢ grand architectural addition to ⁤the nation’s capital reportedly stemmed from ⁤Trump’s ⁢experience witnessing a military parade down the Champs-Élysées in Paris eight years ago ⁣as a guest of French President emmanuel macron. A similar military parade was held in Washington to ‌commemorate ⁢the Army’s 250th ⁤birthday earlier this year.

The project’s future remains uncertain. The White House‍ has not yet responded to requests for a ⁢project timeline, and it is indeed‍ unclear whether the proposal has been submitted to the National Capital Planning Commission, which oversees monument and memorial planning in Washington ⁢D.C. Former commission chairman⁢ L. Preston Bryant Jr.confirmed that federal law mandates ⁢the commission’s review and approval before such a project can proceed. Harrison Design, a ‍local firm, is reportedly involved in the project, but a representative did not⁣ respond to requests for comment. ‍The White House has pledged to disclose donor information for the ballroom project, but ⁤has yet to ⁢do so.

Government Shutdown: Johnson Blames Health Care Demands

by Emma Walker – News Editor October 13, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

WASHINGTON ‍(AP) ⁤-‌ A prolonged government shutdown looms‌ as ‌Speaker Mike Johnson warned Wednesday it coudl be the longest in modern‌ history, perhaps impacting a wide range of ⁣federal services while some agencies are ‌cushioned‍ by⁢ previously approved funding. The shutdown began after Congress failed to ⁤pass a spending bill before a Friday deadline.

While military personnel were spared immediate financial disruption thanks to an $8 billion transfer from unused research and progress funds within the Pentagon, other⁣ critical programs face immediate cuts. The Education Department is already experiencing disruptions to special education and after-school programs.johnson’s warning underscores the complexities of the current impasse, where the “One Big Beautiful ⁤bill Act” – a law passed earlier – provides some agencies with flexibility,⁣ but leaves others vulnerable. The‍ nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has‍ indicated the administration could utilize mandatory funding ‌from the 2025‍ reconciliation act to maintain activities at various agencies currently funded by direct appropriations.⁣ The‌ CBO specifically ‌identified the Department of Defense, the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of Management and Budget as recipients of funds under ⁢the law that could mitigate‍ shutdown impacts.

According to a CBO letter responding to Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, ⁢funds within the Department of Defense’s 2025 reconciliation act appropriation could be ‍used to continue paying active-duty personnel, lessening the number of federal workers facing delayed compensation. However, the length of ⁢the shutdown remains uncertain, and the full extent of the disruption will depend on ‍the duration of the congressional ‍deadlock.

Title: Trump Orders Military Pay Despite Government Shutdown

by Emma Walker – News Editor October 11, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

WASHINGTON (October 6,⁢ 2023) – President Donald Trump has directed the Pentagon to ensure active-duty U.S. troops receive their paychecks on October 15th, despite the ongoing government shutdown.‍ Trump announced the decision via social media, stating he was acting to prevent “Brave⁤ Troops” from missing “paychecks they⁢ are rightfully due.”

The move addresses a key concern as the shutdown, now in its 11th day, threatens to ‌delay pay for the nationS ⁢1.3 million active-duty ‍service members. however, the action does not extend to federal workers, with thousands facing layoffs as the government shutdown continues. The White House budget office began implementing these layoffs on Friday.

Trump attributed the shutdown to Democrats and said⁢ he was exercising‌ his⁤ authority as commander ‌in chief, directing Defense Secretary Pete ‍Hegseth “to use all available funds⁣ to get our Troops PAID on October 15th.” He‍ added, “We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS.”

Funding for the troop payments is likely ⁢to come ⁤from‌ billions of dollars allocated to ⁣the Defense Department through a recent tax and spending bill⁢ signed by Trump earlier this year. The Congressional Budget Office ⁤(CBO) confirmed the possibility of utilizing these funds.

according to the CBO,‍ the administration could also draw from mandatory funding established in the 2025 reconciliation‍ act ‍to maintain operations at⁢ agencies including the Department of defense, Department of the ⁤Treasury, Department of Homeland security, and the Office ⁣of Management and ‌Budget.A letter from the CBO to Senator Joni ernst,R-Iowa,indicated Pentagon funds “could be used to pay active-duty personnel during a shutdown, thus reducing the number of ⁤excepted workers who would receive delayed‍ compensation.”

The White ⁤House has not yet provided details regarding the source of the funds. The government⁢ initially shut down⁤ on October‍ 1st, ‌at the start of the federal⁣ budget cycle.
