Seth Rogen Reveals He’s Turningโฃ Down A-List directors eagerโ to Appear on ‘Teh Studio’
Following a critically acclaimed and award-winning first season, co-creator and star Seth Rogen โคis facing a unique challenge: turning โdown celebrated directors โขwho want to cameo on his Apple TV+ series, The Studio. The show, a satirical look inside the Hollywood machine, โขhas become a โฃcoveted platformโ for filmmakers, evidenced by recent appearances fromโ Martin Scorsese, Ronโ Howard, Sarah Polley,โค Olivia Wilde, Zack Snyder, Aaron Sorkin, and Parker Finn.
Rogen detailed the unusual situation in a recent interview with GQ, describing โthe experience as “very meta” and admitting โขhe’s essentially running โa “fake movie studio.” Agents are now pitching their director clients for roles directing fictional films within the show, but Rogen and his teamโฃ are carefully curating appearances to โfit the show’s narrative. The success of The Studio-which recently earned Rogen four Emmyโ awards in september-has even led to industry โprofessionals regretting past rejections โคof the actor-writer-producer.
“It does feel like I’m running a fake movie studio at times,” Rogen told GQ. “I’m havingโฃ directors’ agents call โคme to pitch their โขclients to be the โขdirectors of fake movies on our show,โข which is very weird โand very meta. โAnd I’m having to actually โขturn down directorsโ I’m a big fan of โขbecauseโ the movie, the fake movie, maybe isn’t quite right for the fake package we have in our heads.โข So yeah-it’s gotten very strange.”
Rogen added that several โฃindustry figures approached him at the Emmys to express regret over previously declining to participate in the series, a sentiment โhe found “very meaningful.” “That’s all I want-for people to regret not working with me,” he joked.
The Studio is co-created by Evanโ Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez.
