[ジャカルタ 14日 ロイター] – U.S. Secretary of State Brinken said at a press conference after the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-related meeting on the 14th that Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov was “neither constructive nor productive” on any issue, and that the U.S. He said he did not hear any remarks suggesting a change in the direction of the war.

He also said Lavrov was “totally negative” and focused on criticizing the United States. During the relevant meetings, President Brinken did not hold a separate meeting with Foreign Minister Lavrov.

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Borrell, also said Lavrov had vehemently rejected calls to withdraw Russian troops from Ukraine.

Russia’s foreign ministry said Lavrov met with Politburo member Wang Yi, the country’s top diplomat, on Thursday to discuss the situation in Ukraine. At the meeting, China’s foreign ministry said it would “strengthen strategic communication and coordination.”

At ASEAN-related meetings, North Korea’s missile launches, the U.S.-China confrontation, and the situation in Myanmar were among the major topics on the agenda. Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) had agreed to “strengthen preventive diplomacy.”

Brinken called for stability in the Indo-Pacific, Taiwan Strait and South China Sea, but stressed North Korea’s “provocative” missile launches as the greatest challenge to regional security. “We need to work together to end North Korea’s illegal weapons of mass destruction program and ballistic missile launches,” he said.

The U.S. State Department said Brinken met with Chinese Politburo member Wang Yi on Wednesday and had “candid and constructive” discussions over both differences and areas of potential cooperation.

[12日 ロイター] – Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov said that armed conflict in Ukraine will continue until the West abandons its plans to dominate and defeat Russia. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the contents of the interview published in the Indonesian newspaper Compass on the 12th.

Lavrov said the goal of the “U.S.-led Western group” was to strengthen global hegemony. He will attend the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum (ARF) in Jakarta this week.

He said the reason why the armed conflict in Ukraine never ends is very simple: “It will continue until the West gives up its plans to maintain its supremacy and overcomes its relentless desire to use Ukraine as its pawn to inflict strategic defeat on Russia. will,” he said. “I see no signs of a change in this position at the moment,” he said.

[ジャカルタ 11日 ロイター] – The Indonesian Coast Guard Agency (BAKAMLA) announced on the 11th that it had seized an Iranian-flagged supertanker suspected of being involved in illegal transshipment of crude oil, and indicated a policy to strengthen maritime security.

The tanker (VLCC) was named MT Arman 114 and was carrying 272,569 tons of light crude oil worth 4.6 trillion rupiah ($304 million).

Aan Kurnia, director general of BAKAMLA, explained to reporters that the vessel was found to be transshipping crude oil with a Cameroon-flagged MTS Tinos near Indonesia’s North Natuna Sea on the 7th, and that it had been seized.

Both vessels tried to escape, so officials focused on tracking the MT Arman and said they had received help from Malaysian authorities after the tanker entered Malaysian waters.

The tanker is also suspected of violating other maritime regulations, including manipulating an automatic identification system (AIS) to falsify its location.

[ワシントン 6日 ロイター] – The United States plans to deliver deadly cluster munitions to Ukraine, a senior US official said on the 6th. The aim is to boost the Ukrainian army’s counterattack. However, human rights groups have voiced their objections because cluster munitions are weapons that indiscriminately kill and injure people.

Two senior U.S. officials said a military aid package for Ukraine, including cluster munitions, is expected to be announced on Wednesday.

The White House said it was “actively considering” sending cluster munitions to Ukraine, but said it would not make any announcements at this time.

A report by Human Rights Watch released on Monday said both Russian and Ukrainian militaries have used cluster munitions in Ukraine, resulting in civilian deaths. He appealed to both countries to stop using them and urged the United States not to supply cluster bombs.

Cluster munitions are prohibited by international treaties from being manufactured, used and possessed, and have been adopted by about 120 countries, but the United States, Russia and Ukraine have not signed them.

[モスクワ 5日 ロイター] – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the 5th that Chinese President Xi Jinping had warned Russian President Vladimir Putin over the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. He denied it, saying it was a “made-up story.”

Citing Western and Chinese officials, the FT reported that Xi had warned Putin not to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine during a face-to-face meeting in March.

Peskov said the two sides had announced the details of their talks in considerable detail after their talks in March. “The document adopted following the statement clearly shows the main points of the negotiations, and everything else is a fabrication,” he said, denying that the FT report was “unconfirmable.”

The FT also quoted Kremlin sources as saying that Putin independently determined that the use of tactical nuclear weapons would not help the Russian army advance.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexico’s Interior Minister Lopez said on Thursday that he will step down as interior minister at the end of the week to try to win the ruling party’s nomination for next year’s presidential election.

Mexico Mayor Scheinbaum and Foreign Minister Ebrard have already announced their candidacy from President Lopez Obrador’s ruling party, the National Renaissance Movement (MORENA).

Mr. Lopez is a close aide to Mr. Lopez Obrador. In Mexico, the Minister of the Interior is an important post in charge of security and other matters.

MORENA will announce its party candidates for the presidential election on September 6th. López Obrador cannot seek re-election because Mexican presidents are limited by law to six-year terms.

Opinion polls currently tend to put Scheinbaum in first place and Ebrard in second. If elected, Scheinbaum will be the first female president.
