Peru Prepares for PISA 2025 with Digital Skills Training and National Competitions
LIMA, Peru – Peru is ramping up efforts to improve student performance in mathematics, reading, and emerging competencies as it prepares for the PISA 2025 examination, administered digitally for the first time. The Ministry of Education is investing in digital transformation initiatives and bolstering foundational skills through national contests, aiming to reflect on and strengthen the nation’s educational system.
The push includes training 150,000 teachers in digital skills and an additional 65,000 in artificial intelligence, alongside expanding connectivity to 1,628 institutions compared to 2024 levels. These efforts are designed to equip both educators and students with the tools needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Beyond digital literacy, Peru is reinforcing core academic abilities through initiatives like the National Mathematics Olympiad, which engaged 1.7 million schoolchildren in its last edition, and the Josรฉ Marรญa Arguedas literary contest, focused on strengthening reading and numerical competencies from a young age.
The PISA 2025 exam will be a two-hour digital assessment for students, complemented by questionnaires for students, teachers, and school directors. Results are not expected to be available until the final quarter of 2026.
According to education expert grandson, the PISA scores should be viewed not as a simple ranking, but as “a photograph of the educational system that allows us to reflect on what capacities should be strengthened.” He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between all stakeholders in civil society linked to education.
