GUNUNGKIDUL, Indonesia -โ Dengue fever cases inโ Gunungkidul Regency are expected to remain relatively stable through teh end of the year, according to health officials, despite ongoing risks โassociated with the rainy season. While acknowledging dengue’s classification as โa โseasonal disease, authorities reportโข a consistent decline in monthly cases following a peak in January.
Recent data indicates a significant drop fromโค 385 infections recorded in January to 175 in February. From March through October, monthly โcases have โremainedโ below 100. Ismono, a health official, cautioned the public against โcomplacency, stating,โฃ “You must not be careless โคas this disease is still a threat, especially during the โrainy โseason.”
The Gunungkidulโฃ Health Service is actively promoting preventative โขmeasures โฃthrough the Community Health Movement (Germas) and the โขMosquito Nest Eradicationโค Movement (PSN). Sidig Hery Sukoco, Head ofโ the โDisease Prevention and Control โคdivision, emphasized the โฃimportance of a โขCleanโ and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS), regular exercise, and nutritious โคfood toโข bolster immunity. PSN efforts aim to achieve a 95% โlarvae-freeโ rate โthrough consistent monitoring andโ elimination of mosquitoโ breeding sites.
“Thisโค is important so that prevention of theโฃ spread of dengue fever can continue to beโข suppressed,” Sukoco said. “Prevention efforts areโฃ notโค only the government’s task, but citizens must play anโค active role so that the resultsโ can be maximized.” Residents โare encouraged to continue practices like closing water containers, draining standing water, and burying โฃpotential mosquito breeding grounds.
