A winter weather system is forecast to bring snow to the Northeastern United States this weekend, with blizzard conditions expected in parts of Novel York and New Jersey, according to forecasts issued Saturday.
While Metro Detroit will experience mostly cloudy skies Saturday with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s, a shift in the weather pattern will bring a chance of snow Sunday. The National Weather Service indicates a light accumulation is possible, primarily on grassy or elevated surfaces, with a high temperature of 37 degrees.
The approaching storm is centered around an area of low pressure moving east, already impacting portions of northern Lower Michigan. However, the intensity of the system is expected to be significantly greater further east. According to reports, blizzard conditions are anticipated in New York City and eastern New Jersey.
Sunday night will witness continued cloud cover and a chance of snow through the mid to late evening hours, with a low temperature of 25 degrees. Monday is expected to remain mostly cloudy with a high of 30 degrees.
Looking ahead, another system is predicted to move into the region on Tuesday, bringing a renewed chance of snow in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will dip slightly, with highs only reaching the low 30s. Further complicating the forecast, a system late Wednesday into Thursday will bring the possibility of rain and snow showers as temperatures briefly rise into the low 40s before falling again to the mid 30s by Thursday afternoon.
Forecasters anticipate drier conditions will return by the end of next week, with a mix of sunshine and clouds expected on Friday and high temperatures climbing back into the low 40s.
