Bali Floods Claim Nine lives, Emergencyโข Response Declared
Denpasar, Bali – A series of โfloods โacross Bali have resulted in teh deaths of nine people, authorities confirmed Wednesday. The fatalities โwere reported in Denpasar,Badung,Gianyar,and Jembrana regencies,prompting the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to declare a one-week emergency response status toโค facilitate aid and recovery efforts.
Theโค floods, whichโข began earlier this week, have displacedโฃ residents and caused significant damage toโ infrastructure. โขthe โemergency declaration allows โคthe central goverment toโ provide assistance to the regional government in handling the disaster’s impact,โ following a formal request for aid. While the scale โฃof the disaster did not necessitate the initially considered two-week emergency period, BNPB Head Lieutenant General Suharyanto emphasized the status โis crucial โfor coordinating effective relief.The victims identified include: Nadira (48, female), Rio Saputra (20, male), MRS X (female), and โฃ”The Lenyot Vegetables” (gender unspecified) in Denpasar; Endang cafyaning Ayu (42, female) in Badung; Ni Made Latif (70, female) โand Ni Made Rupeet (87, female) in Gianyar; and Komang โOka sudiastawa (34, male) and Nita Ulama (23, female)โข in Jembrana.
In Jembrana, โa man died after coming into contact with a live electrical โcable during theโฃ flooding. Residents were immediately instructedโ to โคcut โoff theโค electricity โขmeter before evacuating the โคvictim,โ but the attempt โwas unsuccessful. “The victimโ was โfound floating and died. Indeed there was โa cableโ connection that was cut off,” stated Jembrana Regional Secretary,I Madeโ Budiasa. The victim’s body is currently atโค the State Hospital mortuary awaiting floodwaters to recede.
Suharyanto clarified that theโค emergency status declaration does not โคindicate a critical orโ remarkable situation, but โis aโ procedural step โto unlock central government support. “One of the requirements is that the โขregional government asks for assistanceโฆemergency alert โand emergency response,” he said.
