Frankfurt Police Under Investigation for alleged Abuse of Power
Frankfurt am Main – A sweeping investigation has been launched into 17 police officers in Frankfurt, encompassing allegations of assault, obstruction of justice, and the persecution of innocent individuals. The probe centers around incidents occurring during recent arrests, with authorities examining potential misconduct within the Frankfurt police force.
The investigation, led by the public prosecutor’s office, focuses on officers aged between 24 and 56 who were involved in patrol duties and supervisory roles during the arrests. Investigators are currently examining six cases involving 22 allegations of excessive force against 17 officers. Additionally, four cases with 11 allegations are being investigated concerning 10 officers accused of obstructing justice. Five further cases, encompassing 14 allegations, target 11 officers suspected of pursuing unwarranted charges against individuals.
Evidence supporting the claims includes video footage from police precinct surveillance systems, body-worn cameras, and publicly accessible video surveillance. The prosecutor’s office alleges that some officers initiated investigations against five individuals who had been subjected to police action, reportedly to justify the use of force and validate their own conduct. These investigations centered on accusations of resisting arrest or assaulting law enforcement.
