Córdoba prosecutor Seeks Over a Year in Prison for Man Accused of Practicing Dentistry Without a License
Córdoba dentists have filed a complaint after discovering a patient was treated by an individual allegedly practicing dentistry without proper qualifications. The Public Ministry is seeking a one-year and three-month prison sentence for the accused, who is charged with professional intrusion.
according to a provisional qualification document accessed by ABC, the defendant allegedly performed dental work – including placing a Maryland bridge, conducting oral cleanings, diagnosing periodontal disease, and prescribing treatment – at a dental clinic near the Vial in Córdoba, advertised online as an authorized dental center. The patient believed they were being treated by a qualified dentist.
The Prosecutor’s Office argues these actions constitute a crime under article 403.2.b of the Penal Code. In addition to imprisonment, the prosecutor requests the accused be disqualified from holding public office during the sentence and be responsible for procedural costs. The Public Ministry is also seeking €1,500 in compensation for the patient’s moral damages and losses.
The case echoes past concerns raised a decade ago by the General Council of Dentists regarding irregularities in postgraduate degrees offered by Vitaldent’s center for Higher Studies (CES). The Official College of Dentists of Córdoba initially flagged that master’s degrees in surgery, periodontics, implantology, prosthodontics, and orthodontics were falsely advertised as accredited by the University of Córdoba.
