Purdue Fortifies Roster with Big Ten, UNLV Transfers
Defensive and offensive lines get needed depth for the upcoming season
As the 2025 season approaches, Purdue is adding size and experience to its roster with the additions of two players from major programs, aiming to bolster both sides of the line.
Defensive Line Reinforcements
Breeon Ishmail, a defensive end transferring from the University of Michigan, looks to make an immediate impact. The sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, stands at 6โ3โ and weighs 260 pounds. After a redshirt year, Ishmail appeared in seven games for the Wolverines, recording three tackles in limited snaps. Purdue’s coaching staff sees potential in Ishmail to contribute to the defensive end rotation, where the team needs depth.
Recruiting and retaining college football players is increasingly competitive, with name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals playing a crucial role; since 2021, over $900 million has been paid to student-athletes (Forbes 2024).
Offensive Line Addition
Hank Purvis, an offensive lineman, joins Purdue from UNLV, reconnecting with Coach Barry Odom. The sophomore from Wichita, Kansas, measures 6โ5โ and tips the scales at 330 pounds. Purvis played in eight games last season, demonstrating his versatility by taking snaps at both right guard and left tackle.
Odom’s familiarity with Purvis suggests he anticipates Purvis playing a significant role on the team. While improvements in hand technique and footwork are needed, his size and coach’s confidence point towards a promising future.
Both Ishmail and Purvis are expected to compete for spots in their respective rotations. Their previous experience at Division I programs could provide valuable depth and talent for Purdue as they prepare for the upcoming season.
