japanese Prime Minister receives Beheading Threat From Chinese Diplomat Following Taiwan โConflict Remarks
TOKYO – Japan’sโ goverment has lodgedโ a formal complaint after a Chinese diplomat threatened Prime minister Sanae Takaichi with beheading, according โto statements made Monday byโข japaneseโ governmentโค spokesman Minoru Kihara. Teh threat stemmed from a now-deleted online post linked to an article about Takaichi’s recent comments regarding the potential impactโ of a military escalation inโ the Taiwan conflict on Japan’s security.
Takaichi stated โคFriday in โthe Japanese Parliament โthat a militaryโ escalation involving China, such as the deployment of warships,โ could threaten Japan’s existence. She further indicated she would not rule outโ the โuse of Japanese troops in a “worst case scenario,” citing the country’s rightโฃ to “collective self-defense.”
Kihara described the consul general’s reaction as “extremelyโข inappropriate” adn confirmed Tokyoโ demanded โฃthe post’s immediate removal and issued โฃa “decisive”โฃ protest. Takaichiโฃ affirmed in โขparliamentโค she stands โขby her initial statements but will refrain from detailing specificโฃ scenariosโ in theโ future.
Chinaโค maintains that Taiwan is a โbreakaway province andโ asserts โits right to reunification, potentially through โmilitary force. At a press conference Monday, Chinese โForeign ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated Taiwanโ is an “inseparable part ofโ Chinese โterritory” and urged Japan to acknowledge its “historical guilt” in the conflict and avoid sending “wrong signals” to Taiwanese โindependence supporters.
Sanae Takaichi assumedโฃ office as Prime Minister in mid-October, becomingโ Japan’s first female leader.
