Israel’s Defense Ministry announced the successful completion of testing for the David’s Sling missile defense system on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The system, a joint production of Israel and the United States, is designed to intercept a range of aerial threats.
According to a written statement released by the ministry, David’s Sling is capable of engaging with missiles, rockets, cruise missiles and aircraft. The tests involved multiple scenarios, both existing and potential future challenges, though specific details of those scenarios were not disclosed.
The David’s Sling system is a key component of Israel’s multi-layered air defense architecture. This architecture includes the Iron Dome, designed to intercept short-range rockets (effective between 4-70 kilometers); David’s Sling, which operates at a medium range (40-300 kilometers); the Arrow 2, for longer-range threats (500 kilometers); and the Arrow 3, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles at a range of 2,400 kilometers. The Israel Defense Forces also operates the U.S.-made THAAD ballistic missile defense system.
The development of David’s Sling is a collaborative effort between the Israel Missile Defense Organization and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The announcement of the successful tests comes as negotiations continue regarding a potential U.S. Response to Iranian actions, and amid heightened regional tensions.
Earlier this month, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that any U.S. Attack on Iran would result in a regional war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded shortly after, threatening a forceful response to any Iranian aggression. Israeli officials have indicated they are preparing for all possible contingencies.
