Marc Guehi to โRemain โat โฃCrystal Palace After Liverpool Transfer Collapses
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi will stay with the club after โคaโ last-gaspโ transfer to Liverpoolโ fell through on deadline day, September 1, 2025. The collapse stemmed from Crystal Palace’s inability to secure aโ replacement, despite a ยฃ35million fee being agreed โwith Liverpool and Guehi completing part of a medical.
The dramatic turn of events unfolded as the 9pm deadline approached, with a deal sheet submitted by Liverpool. However, the move hinged on the arrival of Brighton defenderโ Igor Julio as โขGuehi’s โreplacement at Selhurst Park. Julio underwent a medical with Palace earlier in theโข day but โultimatelyโฃ changed his mind, opting to โjoin West Ham – a deal that wasโ not finalized as of this reporting.
David Ornstein of The Athletic first reportedโข around 45 minutes after theโค window closed that โGuehi was “set to stay” due to the “replacement issues.” He detailed thatโ personal terms for a five-year โcontract until 2030โข where already โin place.
“The England international, 25, completed โคat least part of a medical after โคa fee of ยฃ35million was agreed between the clubs.Personal terms on a five-year contract to 2030 were also in place,” Ornstein wrote. “Head coach Oliver Glasner has been vocallyโค opposed to Guehi’s saleโ thisโ summer and has been resolute that his captain could โขnot be allowed to leave unless an appropriate replacement was found.”
Fabrizio Romano confirmed theโ collapse on X, stating: “BREAKING: Marcโ Guehi-Liverpool deal has โCOLLAPSED.Despite medical done and deal sheet submitted, Crystal Palace don’t โapprove the move following igor deal off. Guehi stays at โ#CPFC.”
Sky Sports reporterโข Rob Dorsett described the situation as an “remarkable bunfight” involving multiple Premier League โคclubs.โข He notedโค that Palaceโ risks losing out on the ยฃ35million transfer fee โif Guehi departs on a free โtransfer next summer.
