Guardians‘ Fry Suffers Hamstring Strain; Team โRemains โin Wait on MLB Gambling Probe
CLEVELAND, OH – Octoberโข 9, 2025 – Clevelandโ Guardians utilityโ player David โฃFry sustained a hamstring strain during Tuesday’sโค workout, the team announced Wednesday. The severity of the injury is still being evaluated, but Fry is unlikely toโข participate in further postseasonโ activities.
The injury โขcomes as the Guardians navigate an ongoing MLB examination into alleged gambling violations involving pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Cody Morris. Both Clase and Ortiz have been on paid leave since July, continuing to recieve thier salaries whileโข the investigation proceeds. The Guardians โcurrently have no timeline for a resolution or potential disciplinary actions.
“I think we have to [plan without them],”โข said Guardians President of Baseball Operations chris Antonetti. “That’s the only thing we reallyโ can do is โplan forโข that, and if we get [any new] information weโ would then thinkโ about how we reintegrate those guys into the organization. But for our planning purposes, I think we have to plan as if they won’t be here and then adjust ifโค needed.”
The team is effectively moving forward with roster plans that do not include Clase or โMorris.
On โthe coaching โfront, the Guardians โฃanticipate retaining their entire 2025 coaching โขstaff for the โ2026 season, contingent onโ no departures for other opportunities. bench coach Craigโ Albernaz is considered a potential managerialโฃ candidate, and pitching coach Carl โขWillis has an open invitation to continue in his role provided that โคhe desires.
“Our โexpectation is that there will โbe interestโ from other teamsโค inโข talking to some of our โcoaches, โand exactlyโข howโ that plays out, it’s unachievable to predict,” Antonetti stated. “I think that’s a good and healthyโฃ sign of us organizationally and not just for our coachesโ butโค staff members โacross the organization.”
