‘Full House’ Star Dave Coulier Announces Second Cancer Diagnosis Months After Remission
New York, NY – Actor Dave Coulier, best โคknown for his role as Joey Gladstone on the sitcom โ Full house, has revealed he has been diagnosed with early-stageโค tongue โฃcancer, just months after announcing his remission from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The diagnosis, unrelated โto his previous cancer, was discovered โduring a routine PET scan.
Coulier, 60, publicly shared the news โคon the Today show, emphasizing the importance of regular check-ups. He was initially diagnosed withโ stage 3 non-hodgkin lymphoma last November and declared cancer-free earlier this year following treatment.”To go through chemotherapy and feel that relief โคof whoa, it’s gone, and then to get a โฃtest that says, well, now you’ve got another kindโข of cancer โฆ it is indeed a shock to the system,” Coulier said.
The new diagnosis is P16 squamous carcinoma at the baseโข of his tongue.Doctors confirmedโฃ the cancer is unrelated to the lymphoma he previously โฃbattled. Despite the emotional toll on him and his โขfamily, Coulier โฃexpressed optimism, noting the prognosis is “very good” with a “90-plus curability rate.”
“It has really saved my life, Craig, is that early detection saved my life, not just the first time but the second time as well,” he stated. “So I hope your getting your checkups. I hope you’re getting colonoscopies and breast exams andโ prostate exams; theyโค will saveโ your life.”
Coulier highlighted the unexpected benefit โฃof his initial cancerโ diagnosis, explaining that itโฃ prompted the follow-up PET scan that ultimatelyโค led to the discovery of the tongue cancer.”Had I not goneโ in and listened to โmy doctors and made sure that I โฃgot that PET scan to follow up, we would have never found this carcinomaโฆ and I could be in a worldโค of hurt,” he โคsaid. โค
Theโ actor โขacknowledged the โขemotional strain onโ his wife, Melissa, adding, “It’s psychologically draining. It’s also a big drain to my wife, Melissa, which is โคthe biggest drainโ on me, seeing how this affects her.” โHe remains hopeful about his recovery, stating he is “going to getโ on the other side of โฃthis.”
