NRL Star brandon Smith Accused of Supplying Cocaine to Former Teammate Victor Radley
Sydney, Australia – South Sydney Rabbitohs player Brandon Smith is facing drug supply charges, with allegations surfacing that he provided cocaine to former Sydney Roosters teammate victor Radley during a golf trip last June. Queensland Police allege Smith contacted a drug dealer to procure the substance for Radley, a claim Smith’s lawyer vehemently denies.
According to reports from Nine Newspapers and CODE Sports, the incident occurred during a bye round trip to the Sunshine Coast involving at least seven Roosters players.
Smith maintains he was not even in Queensland at the time of the alleged offense. His lawyer, Paul McGirr, stated, “Brandon Smith will not be commenting on the allegation in any way… At this stage the matter will be contested. The allegation confirms Brandon wasn’t even in the jurisdiction of queensland at the time of alleged offending.”
Radley not Currently a Focus of Investigation
Crucially, authorities are currently not investigating Victor Radley in connection with the allegations. Reports indicate he is not considered a person of interest by Queensland Police.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs released a statement on Tuesday confirming they will support Smith in contesting the charge. “Through his solicitor Paul McGirr, the Club understands that Brandon was not physically in the jurisdiction of Queensland when this matter was alleged to have occurred, and thus, we are instructed that the matter will be contested,” the statement read.
The Sydney Roosters have yet to issue a comment. Though,earlier this year,Roosters chairman Nick Politis outlined a strict zero-tolerance policy towards drug use within the club,stating,”If somebody’s caught doing cocaine… we’re going to get rid of them.”
