Ministry of Health Respondsโ to โMeasles Outbreak in โPamekasan โฃwith Immunization โEfforts
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Health โis actively addressingโ a โคmeasles outbreak in Pamekasan Regency, East Java, through aโ targeted immunization campaign.
“In response to the outbreakโข in Pamekasan, we’ve deployed โคadditional immunizationโ resources with the immediate goal of controlling โand ending the current outbreak,” stated Primaโ Yosephine, Director โคof Immunization โขat the Ministryโ of health, during a press briefing in โขJakartaโ on Wednesday.
This supplemental immunization is beingโข conducted alongside the upcoming Week of Immunization Pursuitโค (PENARI) โขprogram, scheduled โtoโ run from October โข27th to โNovember 1st, 2025.
ms.Yosephine emphasized that managing theโ outbreak is primarily the responsibility of the Pamekasan local โฃgovernment,requiring them โto achieve a minimum 95% coverage โrate for Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI). She urged the region toโ view this situation as a critical learning opportunity to prevent future occurrences.
“We encourage Pamekasan to leverage this moment to reach โคtheir ORI goals. A โstrongโ and unwavering commitmentโค to โขsafe, extensive, and equitable immunization is paramount,” โขshe explained.
To further incentivize progress, โขthe Ministry of Health is implementing โa competitive element within the PENARI program. โฃRegions demonstratingโ the highest immunizationโ rates โwill be awarded prizes.”Thisโ will beโ a competition to see which region โcan deliver the mostโ immunization services โขwithin a single week, and the โฃwinner will beโข recognized by โthe Ministry,” Ms. Yosephine added.
The needโค forโ increased immunization efforts comes as theโค pamekasan District Health Service reported a rise in measles-related fatalities,increasing from seven to ten as of โคOctober 8th,2025. Currently, 178โ residents have tested โpositive for measles, with 734โ suspectedโฃ cases. Medicalโฃ analysis โคindicates that deaths are largely โattributed to complicationsโข such as pneumonia and encephalitis. Authorities note that many โฃpatients arrived โขat healthcare facilitiesโ in critical condition, highlighting the importance of early detection andโข preventative measures.
