TOBA Group has decided not to participate in the Danantara waste-to-energy (WtE) project in Batam, Indonesia, according to a statement released by the company’s leadership on June 18, 2025. The decision comes as TOBA focuses on expanding its renewable energy portfolio, specifically floating solar power plants.
The move impacts the planned 130 MW Danantara WtE facility, intended to process up to 1,000 tons of waste daily adn generate electricity for the Riau Islands province.TOBA’s withdrawal underscores a strategic shift towards solar energy investments, including the Tembesi Batam Floating PLTS, a 46 MWp project currently under construction and slated for completion by mid-2026. This decision reflects a broader trend of energy companies prioritizing renewable sources and perhaps reassessing waste-to-energy ventures.
TOBA Group’s leadership has not disclosed specific reasons for declining involvement in the Danantara project, but emphasized the company’s commitment to its existing and planned floating solar initiatives. The company has been operating since early 2025.
