Teh Washington Commanders are moving forward with their current team name, despite ongoing discussions about its potential to be offensive to Native Americans. Following a accomplished season that saw the team reach its first NFC championship game as 1991, managing partner Josh harris confirmed the name will remain.
“I think it’s now embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff. So we’re going with that,” Harris stated in February.
In parallel, Harris and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser have reached an agreement on a plan to construct a new stadium. This new venue is slated for the same federal land that hosted the team for 35 years before their relocation to the Maryland suburbs. This development follows congressional approval of a 99-year lease agreement between the federal government and the city. The proposed stadium plan is still subject to review and approval by the D.C. City Council.
For General Manager Martin Peters, immediate priorities include contract negotiations with wide receiver Terry McLaurin, integrating recent acquisition Von miller, and assembling a roster capable of replicating the previous season’s achievements.
Veterans were scheduled to arrive and undergo physical examinations on Tuesday.
“We’re really focused on everything in the building and getting ready for the season and getting our guys in here,” Peters commented.
