How Much Protein Do You Really Need? Top GP Warns of Risks

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor October 14, 2025
written by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Protein Overload: Too ⁣much of‌ a⁤ Good Thing?⁣ Top GP Issues Warning

London, UK – ⁣A leading general practitioner is‍ cautioning that excessive protein consumption may pose significant health risks, perhaps increasing⁤ the likelihood‍ of ⁢cancer, diabetes, and mortality. While protein is essential for health, new⁣ research suggests that overdoing it can be ⁤as detrimental as ‍not getting ⁤enough.

A recent ⁣study highlighted that ⁤adults with⁣ the highest protein intake faced a four times greater risk of dying from cancer compared to those⁣ following a low-protein diet. Further research indicates that high protein diets may ⁢accelerate the growth of⁤ tumours, including melanoma and‍ breast⁤ cancer, by overstimulating‍ cellular growth⁢ pathways.

The concern isn’t‍ solely about ‍quantity, but also the type ⁢ of protein consumed. According to Professor Charles Swanton, chief clinician at Cancer Research UK, the ⁤risk of bowel cancer is “much higher” with daily consumption of red or processed meats.Protein powders have also been linked to increased⁤ bowel ‌cancer risk due to their impact on the gut microbiome, potentially triggering ⁣inflammation and toxin ⁤release.

The study found that roughly 20 per cent of ‍total calories from protein was linked to ⁢increased ‌risks of cancer, diabetes and mortality.

GP Dr.⁤ Michael Hobson advises focusing on⁣ a diverse ⁢range of high-quality protein ⁣sources rather ⁤than fixating on specific intake numbers. “Include a mix ‌of plant and animal ‍protein sources-such ⁤as lentils, eggs, soy, nuts, fish, poultry and ‌dairy-to easily hit your protein goals,” he⁣ suggests.

Simple additions ⁢like ‍nuts‌ and ‌seeds to yoghurt (providing over ‍10g of protein) or a small chicken breast (around 30g of protein) ⁢can contribute considerably to daily intake. Snacking‍ on nuts, cheese, and fruit with nut butter are ⁣also ‍effective⁤ ways to boost protein levels.

“Remember, most⁢ of⁣ us don’t ⁤need more protein, we⁣ just need better protein with a balanced diet,” Hobson concludes.

Gut Health: 8 Morning Habits From a Harvard Doctor

Harvard Gut Health Expert Reveals Daily ‘Checklist’ for Optimal Digestion

BOSTON, MA ⁤- October 26, 2023 – A Harvard-affiliated⁣ gut health doctor has shared a daily “checklist” of habits ⁤designed to improve digestion and overall gut health, gaining traction ‍on social media. Dr. Sethi, whose recent post details the routine, emphasizes the importance of⁢ mindful practices to support a healthy gut.

According to Dr. Sethi, the morning routine begins with avoiding screens⁢ during ‌breakfast. He explains the sympathetic system, responsible for the ‘fight or flight response,’ can be triggered by screens,‌ and the NHS confirms we cannot‌ simultaneously be in ‘fight or flight’ and a relaxed digestive state.⁢ Research from⁢ China also indicates screen use while ‌eating can diminish intuitive⁣ eating-the body’s natural hunger and fullness ‍cues.

To aid digestion,Dr. Sethi incorporates a walk after breakfast, noting, “It ‌makes a difference.” He also advocates⁣ for daily stool checks, observing “color, shape and ease” to assess gut health. He utilizes the Bristol Stool Chart, developed by NHS medics⁢ in the UK, which classifies stools into seven types based on form and consistency. Dr. ‍Sethi advises aiming for Bristol types three ‍to four.

He recommends starting with two to ‍three of these ⁢habits⁣ and gradually incorporating more over time.

This‌ advice follows a previous⁤ post where Dr. Sethi urged people to⁣ limit ⁢toilet time to under five minutes to reduce the risk of haemorrhoids, explaining that prolonged sitting increases pressure on rectal veins. A recent study confirmed⁤ smartphone use on the toilet can nearly double the⁤ chance of developing haemorrhoids.

Ironically, many social media users commented on the video stating they were watching it while on the toilet, with one user writing, ⁣”I scrolled to this vid while on the loo.” Despite the lighthearted ‍responses,‍ the potential health implications remain significant.

Rashford Blames Manchester United’s Instability for Career Struggles

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor October 13, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Marcus Rashford ⁣points to‌ Instability ‌at Manchester United as Factor in Career Dip, Thriving on Loan at Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain – Marcus Rashford has indicated that a turbulent ‍environment at Manchester United contributed to a decline in his form, following a successful start to his loan spell at Barcelona. ⁣The‌ England international, who ⁢joined Barcelona ⁣for⁤ the remainder of the ⁢2024-25 season, has seemingly flourished after a ‍period of struggle at Old Trafford.

Rashford signed a £300,000-per-week contract with Manchester United after⁤ a prolific season, but his goal contributions markedly decreased in the 2023-24 season, with just eight goals and five assists. This downturn coincided with warnings from then-manager ‌Erik ten Hag regarding Rashford’s lifestyle, stemming from incidents including missing training after a tequila bender in⁤ Belfast and oversleeping, leading ‍to a ‍missed team meeting.

Ten ⁢Hag’s successor,Ruben Amorim, also publicly stated Rashford needed to “change” and emphasized the need ⁢for ‌squad standards, ultimately freezing the forward out‌ of his team.

Rashford’s loan move to Aston ⁤Villa saw⁢ a resurgence, with four goals ‍and six assists in ⁢17 appearances. Despite a recent disciplinary issue – being dropped by⁤ Hansi Flick for lateness⁢ to a team meeting – Barcelona officials have expressed satisfaction with his performances and openness to a‍ permanent deal.

Barcelona sporting director Deco echoed Rashford’s sentiment ⁢regarding the impact of instability at his former club. “It’s too early to talk⁢ about decisions for next season, but what matters is that we’re happy with him.⁣ what we thought he could bring to ‍us,he’s ‍bringing,” Deco stated. “He’s a very high-level⁤ player. He exploded very early, then he had great ‍seasons at United, then he had years of more complicated management with changes of coaches, and perhaps he struggled too as they ⁢demanded a lot of⁤ things from him ‌there. But we’re happy ⁢with him – that’s the most crucial thing.”

Deco added, “These⁤ aren’t decisions for now. Now it’s time to ‌focus on the games to come. A decision will be made, but that’s not being discussed right now. There’s a contract ⁤between the clubs ⁣but‍ it has to ‌be discussed.”

-title Joey Barton Slams Wayne Rooney Over Manchester City Title Conspiracy

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor October 13, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Joey Barton ‍Launches Expletive-Laden Attack on Wayne Rooney Over 2012 Title Conspiracy Theory

Manchester, ⁣England – Joey barton has ignited a fierce war ‌of words with Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, unleashing a profanity-filled tirade⁣ dismissing Rooney’s long-held belief that QPR played a role in Manchester City‘s dramatic 2012 Premier League title win. Barton vehemently labeled Rooney’s claims as “b**cks” and accused him of ‌seeking narratives to fit his own biases.

Teh outburst came⁢ as Barton responded to Rooney’s continued questioning of‌ the circumstances surrounding City’s victory over QPR on the final day ‍of the 2011-2012 season. Rooney has publicly expressed his suspicions that the match was not played with full competitive integrity, a claim Barton aggressively refuted. “Your conspiracy theories, Wazza, are untrue. Sometimes people tell you stuff in life and you want to believe it because it fits your narrative and you want to have‌ that cognitive dissonance,” Barton stated.

barton⁢ specifically defended himself and several former teammates‍ – Djibril cisse,Shaun ⁤Wright-Phillips,Nedum Onuoha, and Paddy Kenny – against accusations of conspiring to ensure a ‍City win. He pointed ‌to the fact that City needed to win against a QPR side fighting relegation, stating,”Man City had to beat QPR on the last day of the ⁢season ‌at home, who were ⁣in the bottom four. That’s your fault. The fact he’s even had a sniff of winning the league is a testament to the lads at QPR and the battle they put up, because that‌ was an easy fing win for City.”

The 2012‌ title race culminated in a nail-biting ⁤finish, with City scoring two goals in injury time to defeat QPR 3-2 and secure the⁤ Premier League trophy on ⁢goal difference. ⁣Barton concluded his rant with a scathing attack on Rooney and his former teammates, saying, “QPR stayed up, happy days. City won the league, happy days.‍ And you **s were all crying on the pitch at the fing Stadium of fing Light or Middlesborough ‌or wherever you was, which is ‌fing ⁤triple whammy. Get f***ed.” Images circulating online show Cisse celebrating with Samir nasri after the final whistle, a moment Rooney has previously highlighted as raising concerns.
