Brazilian United Soccer Camp Comes to Columbia During World Cup

A Brazilian-led soccer camp is scheduled to start July 6th at Cosmo Park in Columbia, Missouri, coinciding with the first FIFA World Cup matches hosted in Kansas City.

Brazilian United, the organization running the camp, aims to instill a deeper appreciation for the sport than simply athletic skill, according to coach Lucas Padilha. “This is more than just a sport, it’s our life, and we want to craft them understand that and make them love this as much as we do,” Padilha said.

The camp’s timing aligns with Kansas City’s role as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will feature six matches at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on June 16, 20, 25, 27, July 3, and July 11. The tournament, expanded to include 48 teams, will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking the first time three nations have shared hosting duties.

Natalie Dixon Crewell, a Columbia resident and parent, expressed enthusiasm for the camp and its potential impact on the local soccer community. “It’s a great asset for his confidence and he is learning that the hard function to play soccer, shows up in his other sports as well,” Crewell said, referring to her son. She added, “I’m really excited that this is going to, hopefully, change the stage for soccer in Missouri and maybe inspire more participation.”

The camp’s arrival comes as soccer continues to vie for prominence within the American sporting landscape, often overshadowed by football and basketball. Padilha emphasized the importance of fostering a genuine passion for the game. “The most key things are to have fun and to have passion for this sport,” he said. Crewell voiced hope that the increased exposure could lead to greater development of youth soccer programs in the region, stating, “Maybe this will be our time to develop a program as well so that maybe one day we’ll be watching our kids in the World Cup.”

Registration for the Brazilian United soccer camp will remain open until its commencement on July 6th.
