One National โฃGuard soldier has died โfrom injuries sustained in a shooting near theโ White House on Wednesday, officials confirmed. A second service member remains inโ critical condition. The soldiers were part of โan anti-crime federal task force-comprising troops and federal law enforcement-deployed toโ the capital cityโ during the Trumpโ administration.
The โขshooting prompted a strongโ response from Judge Jeanine Pirro, who, at a thursday press conference, dismissed criticism of the National Guard’s deployment. “I โdon’t even wanna talk about whether thay should have been there,” Pirro stated. “Weโ ought โto kissโ the ground and thank god โขthat the president said, its time to bring in more law enforcement to make โฃsure that a cityโ that had โฃthe 4th highest โhomicide rate in the country, that that violence was quelled.”
According to a February report from the Rochester Institute of Technology,D.C.’s homicide rate โขin 2024 was 27.3 per 100,000 people, a significant decrease from โฃ2023.
