Eggesin, Germany – A gas leak prompted an evacuation and emergency response in Eggesin onโ October 1st, 2025, after a โคresident accidentally damaged a gas line while doing home repairs.โฃ No injuries were reported.
the incident occurred at โapproximately 3:40โ p.m. at a row house on karl-Marx-Str. in the 17367 Eggesin postal code. Preliminary investigations indicateโ a 74-year-oldโค tenant and a neighbor inadvertentlyโ struck a gas lineโ between the ground โfloor and basement with a drill during handicraft work, โresulting in a continuous gas leak. Police officers from the Ueckermรผnde station responded to the scene, finding both the resident and his neighbor already outside the affected property. โAs aโ precaution, oneโ individual from a neighboring row house was โevacuated.
A representative from the regional gas provider secured the main gas supply, allowing โthe Eggesin volunteer โfire brigade – deploying two vehicles and ten โฃemergency personnel – to inspect the gas pipes for further damage. no additional damage was found, and the gas provider will โฃoversee the repair ofโข the damaged line. Once the escaped gas โคdissipated and the area โwas deemed safe, residents were permitted to return to โtheir homes.
