Two bullets hit the gunman’s head – Survived
 – 2024-08-22 21:02:04

Two men fired their pistols inside the Mercedes pictured last May 6 in Turku. Prosecutor’s evidence/Varsinais-Suomen police

  • Both men were armed with and used pistols. The car was shot at least five times.
  • According to the prosecutor, they tried to kill each other.
  • This claim is disputed by the men, although they otherwise gave a different account.

The bullets that hit the 36-year-old victim’s head were fired with a Soviet 7.62 caliber pistol. The 44-year-old man from Turku had hidden the gun in his car.

The seriously wounded younger man was operated on at the hospital and his life was saved. He lost his vision in one eye and the vision in the other eye also deteriorated.

In a quick situation, the 36-year-old had time to fire his 9-millimeter pistol three times. According to the prosecutor, he shot twice at the 44-year-old man sitting in the right front seat, but did not hit.

Then the 9mm pistol, modified from a starter pistol to a real handgun, jammed, because the shell got stuck in the cartridge case. According to the prosecutor, the 36-year-old man tried to fire his weapon even after this, but to no avail.

The back seat photographed shortly after the situation. The 36-year-old man’s starter pistol, converted into a real working pistol, can be seen at the top of the picture. Police/ Prosecution Evidence

No blood is visible on the front of the car. The 44-year-old’s Tokarev pistol can be seen in the leg compartment. Police/ Prosecution Evidence

In addition to the two men, there was also a woman sitting in the driver’s seat of the car.

Bullets pierced the car’s window, the roof in two places and the windshield in one place. The shooting took place around five o’clock on a weekday, so bystanders were also in danger.

The incident that took place on the edge of the Turku city area on the Tampere highway on May 6 ended with the arrival of a police patrol.

Police modeled the path of the four shots based on the damage to the car. However, the angle of entry of the bullet that hit the rear window could not be determined. Police/ Prosecution Evidence

Heavy charges for both

The trial of the case began in the District Court of Varsinais-Suomen on Wednesday.

The prosecutor demands that both men be punished for attempted murder and the corresponding prison sentence.

The prosecutor also presented secondary charges. The 36-year-old’s secondary punishment claim is aggravated assault, and the seriously wounded 44-year-old’s secondary charge is attempted aggravated assault.

For the 44-year-old defendant, the prosecutor proposes increasing the punishment due to the man’s violent crimes in recent years. The 36-year-old also has a criminal record. However, neither of the men has previously committed a murder or an attempted murder.

The 44-year-old is from Turku and the 36-year-old is also from the Turku region.

One bullet hit the driver’s headrest. Police/ Prosecution Evidence

Denies that he shot at

In their preliminary answers, both defendants denied attempted murder, as well as their secondary charges.

The 36-year-old defendant stated that the shots he fired did not hit the younger man, and could not have hit him, because his intention was not to kill him.

He had not aimed the shots at the other man.

The 36-year-old accused emphasizes that he used the weapon in an emergency situation by firing it three times. He used the gun in a situation where another man pointed a pistol at him from the front seat. He defended himself against a life-threatening attack.

It is possible that he was already seriously injured at the time of the shots.

Two bullets pierced the roof and one pierced the rear side window.

“Right to defend yourself”

The defense report of the 44-year-old is also partly similar, but opposite. This man also claims that he did not intend to kill or injure another man, but tried to defend himself – and succeeded in that.

According to the 44-year-old, the younger man had been threatening him with a gun from the back seat for a long time. In a situation where he realized that the other person was shooting, he threw himself into the footwell of the front seat for protection and “reflexively” found his gun under the car’s floor mat.

He fired his pistol twice without aiming the shots at anything. He was not even able to aim shots in that situation.

According to the 44-year-old, he had the right to defend himself. Without defending himself and the interference of the other man’s gun, he would probably have died. He also had to defend his common-law wife, who was sitting in the driver’s seat.

The bullets that hit the head were fired with this Soviet-designed pistol. Police/ Prosecution Evidence

Order to move out of Turku

According to the 44-year-old defendant, the background of the incident is a dispute between Roma families. The family of the 36-year-old man living in Raisio claims that he violated the dress code of the Roma.

The family demanded that he move out of Turku due to the violation, which he does not want to do.

According to the 44-year-old accused, he had already been threatened for a couple of months. His home had been broken into. On the day of the incident, he was forced to go on a car ride, during which a 36-year-old man pointed a gun at him.

The 36-year-old had been ordered to carry out the deportation. The 36-year-old’s relatives followed his car in their own cars, which was driven by his common-law wife.

According to the 44-year-old accused, the police did not properly investigate the background of the incident and the prosecutor was in danger when he claimed that he tried to kill his threat.

According to the 44-year-old, he does not know the 36-year-old man. However, he had met her in his childhood.

The District Court of Varsinais Suomen will give its verdict later. Iltalehti returns to the matter.

A 19-year-old raped two teenage girls – He tried to defend himself with a special explanation
 – 2024-08-18 19:37:56

The Kymenlaakso district court initially sentenced the man to 2.5 years in prison. Jarmo Sipilä

Janne Sakari Julian Lipponen22, raped two underage girls in one month. The acts took place in the fall of 2021. The victims were 14 and 15 years old at the time. Lipponen was 19 years old.

The 15-year-old girl met Lipponen at the Kotka market on Saturday, October 2, 2021. At the end of the evening, Lipponen asked the girl over. He assured that “nothing bad” would happen in the apartment and that the girl should not be afraid.

In the apartment, Lipponen led the girl to his bed. Without asking more, he undressed and raped the girl. The connection was unprotected. The frightened girl was unable to defend herself or express her will.

Four weeks later, Lipponen arrived uninvited to a house party for minors at a private apartment in Kotka. He went next to a 14-year-old girl who was sleeping on the bed and was unwell and raped her.

After both acts, Lipponen had “leaked” or spread his acts to the third young person. In addition, he had commented on the appearance of both girls, saying that they are good-looking for 15-year-olds.

In court, however, Lipponen claimed that he thought the girls had already turned 16.

Both “youth”

When the sexual crimes were dealt with in the Kymenlaakso district court, Lipponen denied having committed the crimes. He didn’t think the age difference of a good 4 years was big, because all the participants were “youth”.

Lipponen claimed that the 15-year-old girl had actively participated in sexual acts and that the girl could have also left the situation if she wanted to.

The district court found that Lipponen had taken advantage of the girl’s defenselessness and subjected her to sexual intercourse.

The district court was on the same lines with the second charge. It considered that the intoxicated 14-year-old girl has not been able to express her will or defend herself. In addition, the court stated that as an adult, Lipponen must also have understood this.

The Court of Appeal increased

The Court of Appeal of Eastern Finland issued a decision in the case on August 15, 2024. Henri Kärkkäinen

The Kymenlaakso district court sentenced Lipponen to a combined 2.5 years in prison for two counts of rape and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

The district court ordered that Lipponen should compensate both of his victims 4,000 euros for the suffering caused by the crime, as well as 1,500 euros for the other victim for temporary psychological harm.

Lipponen appealed the sentence to the Court of Appeal, demanding that the charges be dismissed or that the punishment and damages be reduced in any case.

It was the other way around. The Court of Appeal of Eastern Finland considered it an aggravating circumstance that similar crimes had occurred within less than a month.

It sentenced the now 22-year-old Lipponen to a prison sentence of 2 years and 10 months.

The case was resolved by two appeals court advisors and one assessor. The assessor left a dissenting opinion on the matter. He would have dismissed both rape charges due to insufficient evidence.

A young man has a long sentence for shocking acts
 – 2024-08-08 21:43:01

The judgment given by the Helsinki District Court on July 24 is not yet legally binding. Sami Kuusivirta

Khalid Ellamman21, brutally raped and robbed a sex worker last summer in Helsinki. He already has an unusually long criminal record for his age.

Now the Helsinki district court sentenced the man to another year in prison. He has been assessed as extremely dangerous to the life, health or freedom of others.

Ellamman had agreed to paid sex with the victim. The meeting was arranged at the victim’s apartment in Helsinki on July 15.

When the victim asked for payment in advance, Ellamma took out a bladed weapon. He said he wasn’t going to pay. Ellamman raped the victim while threatening her with a knife.

Immediately after the rape, Ellamman took cash and expensive branded sunglasses from the victim. He still pushed the victim to the ground, strangled him and punched him hard in the jaw. The victim’s tooth was chipped from the blow.

Allegation of consent

Ellamman admitted to hitting the victim with his fists and usurping her property, but denied committing rape.

He claimed that the sexual acts took place at the victim’s initiative and consent. He denied pushing or strangling the victim or taking out his knife. The court did not believe the man’s explanations.

When giving the sentence, the district court considered that the rape was gross: the intercourse was unprotected, diverse and humiliating. They caused fear, anxiety and pain in the victim.

The court also found the robbery outrageous: Ellamman had planned the act in advance, threatened with a bladed weapon and used violence.

Ellamman was sentenced to compensate the victim a total of 24,000 euros for the pain and suffering caused by the crimes.

Robbed an acquaintance

The district court also convicted Ellamman of another aggravated robbery. It had happened in September 2023.

Ellamman stole a considerable amount of cash from an acquaintance by threatening him with two kitchen knives. He hit the victim in the hand, grabbed the hair and hit the victim on the head with a knife.

The victim managed to call the emergency center only after Ellamman left the apartment. The police arrested Ellamman a week later.

The Helsinki district court sentenced Ellamman to 5 years and 3 months in prison for two aggravated robberies and aggravated rape.

The court sentenced the man to compensate the victim of an aggravated robbery with a total of 7,200 euros for the pain, suffering, and the stolen property.

Ellamman’s previous sentence was reduced by the Helsinki district court at the beginning of the year.

You raped a 15-year-old

In January, the Helsinki district court sentenced Ellamman to 2 years and 10 months in prison for gross sexual abuse and rape of a child.

The crimes themselves took place before Christmas 2021. Ellamman had offered a 15-year-old girl cannabis and raped an intoxicated minor in her mother’s apartment.

He admitted the acts, but denied the use of rape and violence. He claimed he did not know the age of the work.

The district court considered that the man seriously violated the girl’s right to sexual self-determination. He was sentenced to compensate the girl for the pain and suffering he caused a total of 11,000 euros. The verdict is final.

Before his latest actions, Ellamman was on parole for previous violent crime convictions.

Helsingin Sanomat previously reported on the most recent sentence.
