HOUSTON – A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a METRO bus on I-45 southbound in north Houston Monday morning, causing important traffic delays.
Houston police responded to a call around 10:30 AM regarding a person walking on the freeway in the 10500 block of the North Freeway. METRO officials confirmed a male pedestrian was in the HOV lane when he was hit by the side bumper of a METRO bus. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The bus driver, shaken by the incident, exited the HOV lanes and was transported to a hospital due to distress and an elevated heart rate. All nine passengers on board the bus were interviewed and transferred to another bus.
Authorities have closed the HOV lane from Parramatta to West Road, though the West Road HOV entrance remains open. Drivers should anticipate delays in the area.
