Key Witness ‘Eddy’ Describes Krystian M.’s Involvement in the Murder of Peter R. de Vries

In a series of statements, witness ‘Eddy’ describes how Krystian M. shared the preparations for the murder of Peter R. de Vries with him. They form an important piece of evidence in the murder trial that will start on Tuesday. “Now it’s his turn.”

When the door of a van is pulled open at the end of October 2019, Krystian M. is one of the men who comes out armed with hammers and sledgehammers. According to prosecutors, his DNA reveals that the then 24-year-old Pole is hidden behind one of the balaclavas.

The job is to take down a criminal rival on behalf of Anouar Taghi. In any case, that is the suspicion for which M. heard demands for a twelve-year prison sentence in November. “That was for uncle” (more about that later), said witness Eddy about the how and why behind the attack in Utrecht. M. told him that himself.

Eddy is the pseudonym of a witness who reported to the police at the end of November 2021. He says he has been friends with M. for over a year and a half and has built up such a relationship of trust that M. tells him all kinds of things. In a series of witness statements he outlines how M. climbs the criminal ladder from executor of violent jobs to intermediary in the murder of De Vries.

“He told me that he was forbidden to do things himself,” said Eddy. “He only had to hire people, but was not allowed to do anything himself because the boss needed him as a leader.”

According to Eddy, that boss is a person who M. calls “uncle”. Eddy does not know who “uncle” is, but it concerns a Moroccan who is in prison. Justice later draws the conclusion that it is Ridouan Taghi.

Witness had to participate in child kidnapping

The liquidation of De Vries is not the only reason that Eddy will go to the police at the end of 2021. “I know people who did completely wrong things,” said Eddy. “At one point they wanted me to participate in one of these kinds of things. To be precise: it was about a kidnapping.” The witness explains to the police that there were plans to kidnap two children of a drug dealer. “And then I decided for myself that I had to report to the police to get out.”

Eddy says that he did not participate in any way in M’s criminal activities. The latter did drive around in cars that were registered in Eddy’s name. The witness has a criminal past, but says he has served his sentence for it.

According to the justice department, Eddy’s story is reliable and is supported by other evidence. The testimonies are therefore an important pillar in the construction of evidence against the suspects in the murder of De Vries.

Eddy, also called witness 5089, says he has all his knowledge from “good friend” M. They met in 2020 through a mutual friend.

In personal conversations, M., born in 1995, explains that he wants to start a Polish mafia in the Netherlands with him as leader. “Krystian was showing off a lot,” Eddy said about M’s openness. “I actually suspect that a lot of what he told me, he also told others.”

Eddy initially sees murder plans as a bluff

Since April 2021, M. has said that he has been organizing the murder of a journalist. There is 150,000 euros to be earned and Kamil E. is already hunting for it. E. is the man who will later be arrested for, among other things, mapping De Vries’ movements.

“The reason for this was that he works with a key witness (Nabil B., ed.),” Eddy said about the motive. He (Krystian M., ed.) said that they had already shot the brother of the key witness and now it is his turn,” he refers to De Vries. He is still unknown to Eddy. He tells the stories in initially dismissed as a bluff. “It didn’t occur to me that something like this could really happen,” says Eddy.

That changes when a Dutch colleague tells Eddy about the attack on De Vries, and that a Pole was involved. Together with his colleague, Eddy listens to the news on the radio about the attack committed on July 6, 2021 in Amsterdam’s Lange Leidsedwarsstraat.

He immediately makes a connection with the conversations he has been having with M for months. “I called him immediately. I was in shock and I said to him: was it yours?” “Not over the phone,” Eddy is told. The next day they meet and the witness is told that mistakes have been made.

The driver of the getaway car, the aforementioned Kamil E., should have driven to Rotterdam, but for unknown reasons chose a different route. Within an hour after the attack, he was arrested together with alleged shooter Delano G. on the A4 near Leidschendam.

Chilling conversations surrounding the execution of a murder

The murder weapon is found in the getaway car, as well as a telephone with chilling conversations about the murder of De Vries. Justice suspects that these conversations were held with M., who plays a coercive role: “You must have this dog,” is the message with a photo of De Vries. M.’s lawyer, Ronald van der Horst, has been asked for a response, but he does not want to respond.

The crime journalist died from his injuries nine days after the attack. As the trial approaches its conclusion after a year, the Public Prosecution Service suddenly comes up with a new witness. It turns out Eddy, who inadvertently becomes the reason the case has to be redone.

After a series of preliminary hearings, the trial will start on Tuesday and the sentence will be imposed a week later. The court plans to deliver its ruling in June 2024.

English Tourist Stabbed to Death in Amsterdam: Suspect Faces 14 Years in Prison

What was initially a fun night out in Amsterdam ended with his death for the English tourist Danny Castledine. The man was apparently stabbed many times out of nowhere in June 2022 by probably Nongo B. The Public Prosecution Service demanded fourteen years in prison.

The suspect himself says he cannot remember anything about what happened on the night of May 31 to June 1. The Belgian B. had traveled from Mechelen to Antwerp and caught a train in which he fell asleep. He woke up in Amsterdam.

B. went strolling around there and by chance he came across 22-year-old Castledine. The Englishman was quite intoxicated, wandered across the street and had lost his friend. Camera images show that B. and Castledine are talking to each other and that there is friendly contact. The victim gives B., among other things, a box and they continue walking together.

It is therefore a “mystery where the explosion of violence suddenly came from”, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). Victim Castledine was stabbed 43 times and died on the Singel in Amsterdam. B. says he doesn’t know what happened, but realizes that he probably did it. B. recognizes himself on the camera images.

Hours after the crime, B. was treated by ambulance personnel because he was covered in blood. The blood turned out not to be his and he was arrested for involvement in Castledine’s death.

Substances such as oxycodone and bromazepam were found in B.’s blood, but it cannot be said with certainty whether these influenced his actions. The man was also examined at the Pieter Baan Center, but no disorder was found in B.. A reason for the excessive violence could therefore not be given.

Judgment will be handed down on February 2.

Willem Holleeder Receives Life Sentence: Supreme Court Upholds Ruling

Willem Holleeder Receives Life Sentence: Supreme Court Upholds Ruling

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com January 9, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Jan 9, 2024 at 12:36 Update: 26 minutes ago

The chance that Willem Holleeder will ever step outside prison again seems to have disappeared. The Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that the sentence can be upheld for life and is therefore final.

The 65-year-old Holleeder was found guilty by both the court (2019) and the court of appeal (2022) of ordering five murders, aggravated assault and membership of a criminal organization.

Holleeder gained national fame for his role in the kidnapping of Freddy Heineken in 1983. Together with one of his later victims and co-kidnapper Cor van Hout, he received eleven years in prison for this.

In 2007, Holleeder was sentenced to nine years in prison for extorting businessman Willem Endstra, among others. That man was shot dead in front of his office in Amsterdam in 2004, on behalf of Holleeder.

Holleeder has always denied this liquidation. Just like the murders of John Mieremet (2005), Kees Houtman (2005) and Thomas van der Bijl (2006) and the manslaughter of Robert ter Haak (2003).

Statements from Holleeder sisters and ex-girlfriend are crucial

His sisters Sonja and Astrid and his ex-girlfriend Sandra den Hartog were important witnesses against Holleeder. Just like two key witnesses. According to the court, their statements are reliable and the Supreme Court sees no reason to deviate from them.

The argument of Holleeder’s lawyers that a life sentence is contrary to the prohibition of inhuman treatment or punishment is also not accepted.

The court ruled that Holleeder made decisions about life and death in a “cold and unscrupulous manner”. The murders were motivated by financial motives or to ensure that no one else could take revenge on him or talk to the police. Therefore, a life sentence was appropriate and the Supreme Court finds this decision sufficiently motivated.

Holleeder can still choose to go to the European Court of Human Rights. There is also the option to request a reassessment after 25 years in prison. The Advisory Board for Life Prisoners must then advise the Minister for Legal Protection as to whether a life sentence prisoner can possibly return to society.

Veysel Ü., the man who was convicted two weeks ago for the murder of two brothers in a packed McDonald’s restaurant in Zwolle, is appealing. The Overijssel court confirmed this after reporting from RTV East.

The 34-year-old Ü. shot dead brothers Ali (57) and Hüseyin (62) Torunlar in a McDonald’s branch in Zwolle-Noord on March 30, 2022. The three had a conversation in the restaurant about a conflict surrounding the investment of hundreds of thousands in Turkish real estate.

YOU. was sentenced to thirty years in prison. The man previously said he shot on impulse. According to the court, there was no evidence that there were high emotions during the conversation in the restaurant.

CCTV footage showed that Ü. walked away during the conversation to order coffee and tea. A minute and twenty seconds later he was back at the table. He did not sit down anymore, but shot directly at the brothers.

It is not yet known when the appeal will be filed.

Amsterdam Court Imposes Prison Sentences in Controversial Torture Container Case: 21 Minutes Ago Update

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 20, 2023

Dec 20, 2023 at 2:53 PM Update: 21 minutes ago

The court in Amsterdam imposed prison sentences of one to seven years on Wednesday in the case surrounding the controversial torture container in Wouwse Plantage in Brabant. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded sentences of up to nine years against the eight suspects on appeal.

The court previously imposed prison sentences of up to nine years on the suspects, with ages ranging from 36 to 70 years. The Public Prosecution Service demanded that these sentences be upheld on appeal.

The court called high penalties appropriate because it was a professional organization. “The preparatory actions were at a very advanced stage and there was an active search for intended victims. It is disgusting that the suspects seriously considered also kidnapping women and children in order to target their victims,” the court said in the ruling.

The main suspect in the case is 52-year-old Roger P., alias Piet Costa. He was sentenced to 33 months in prison, as was also the court. In his case, the court had to take into account the fifteen years in prison he was previously sentenced to in a major drug case.

Container with dental chair and torture tools

A cell complex of six sea containers was built in Wouwse Plantage. A seventh container was set up as a torture chamber, including a dental chair on which victims could be tied. Torture tools were found in the complex.

Fast cars were parked in a warehouse in Rotterdam. These were probably used for kidnappings. Weapons and police uniforms were also found.

The cars and containers are said to be intended to kidnap, imprison and torture criminal rivals or enemies in the cocaine trade. On June 22, 2020, the police intervened when, according to the Public Prosecution Service, the suspects were about to place a first victim in their underworld prison.
