New COVIDโ Strains Trigger ‘Razor-Blade Throat’ and Emerging Dental Symptoms, Health Officials Warn
Health officials โare urging caution as autumn COVID-19 vaccines are rolledโ out, citing โevolving symptoms associated with dominant strains currently circulating in england. The latest variants, XFG (Stratus) and previously NB.1.8.1 (Nimbus),are presenting with aโ range of symptoms, including a especially painful sore throat described as “razor-blade throat” and, increasingly, reports of dental issues.
The changing face of COVID-19 means symptoms now โคoften mimic aโ commonโฃ cold, but can also include fever, chills, continuous cough, shortness of breath, tiredness, body aches, headache, sore throat, blocked nose, loss of appetite, nausea, โคdiarrhoea,โค or a change in sense of taste or โฃsmell. The emergence of these new symptoms, alongside the established ones, underscores the importance of staying up-to-date with vaccinations and remaining vigilant.
According to the agency, some individuals areโฃ reporting a hoarseโ voiceโค or anโค exceptionally painful sore throat linked โto the newer variants. Beyond the throat, anecdotal reports are surfacing of โpatients experiencing toothache and gum sensitivity alongside theirโ other COVID symptoms, though the exact โขlink is still being โinvestigated.
Data from September 29 to October 5 reveals that the XFG variant, also known as Stratus, hasโฃ become the dominant strain of COVID-19 acrossโ England. Prior to this, the NB.1.8.1 variant, dubbed Nimbus, was widely prevalent.
