Pterostilbene Shows Promise as a โNovel Anti-Aging Ingredient inโข New clinical Study
Driven by growing consumer demand for effective anti-aging solutions, researchers in China have conducted a promising clinical trialโค evaluating the benefits of pterostilbene, a natural compound, in a skincare emulsion. The 28-day study, published in the Journal of Dermatologic Science and Cosmetic โTechnology, involved 31 participants and utilized a rigorous double-blind,split-face โขmethodology – comparingโข results โขon theโข left and right sidesโ of each participantS face.
The โresearchโค team assessed the efficacy of a skincare emulsion containing 0.1% pterostilbene against a controlโค emulsion, employing both โadvanced instrumental measurements and participant self-assessments. โResults demonstrated statistically significant improvements in several key areas of skin health withโ the pterostilbene โformulation.โ
Specifically, the study revealed enhanced skin elasticity and firmness, alongside a visible โreduction in wrinkles, including those commonly found on the โforehead, under the eyes, and around the outer corners of the eyes (Crow’s feet). Further analysis indicatedโค that the pterostilbeneโ emulsion contributed to a thicker epidermis, increased levels of collagen and elastin fibers, and a reductionโ inโฃ the appearance of skin pores.
“We observed remarkable improvements across multiple skin parameters,” explains โZhiyuan Chen, co-author of the study and Founder of Guangzhou Luanying Cosmetics Co., Ltd. โข”Participants also consistentlyโฃ reported higher satisfaction โlevels โwith the pterostilbene emulsion compared to the control.”
Corresponding author Xueping Chen believes these findings represent a significantโ step forward in โขunderstanding the potential of pterostilbene in โskincare. “This research provides compelling evidence of pterostilbene’sโ potent anti-aging properties and โsupports its inclusion as an active ingredientโ inโ cosmeticโ formulations,” she states. “It also opens up exciting possibilities for โleveraging natural compounds in the development โขof innovative skincare products.”
While the results are encouraging, the researchers acknowledge the need for further inquiry. They propose conductingโค a longer-term study to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the long-lasting effects of pterostilbene onโ skin health and aging. Thisโ research could possibly reshape the future โof โขanti-aging skincare, offering a new andโฃ effectiveโ approach to combating the visible signs of โaging.
