Globally, corruption continues to cost trillions of dollars annually, hindering economic development and public trust (Transparency International, 2024).
NAB’s Performance and Recoveries
The NAB presented a two-year performance report, highlighting the recovery of billions of rupees misappropriated through corruption. Recoveries came from both the NAB headquarters and its regional offices. The bureau also reported completing 700 inquiries, initiating 218 investigations, and filing 21 new corruption references during 2023-2024.
The government’s focus signals a commitment to accountability and transparency, with potential implications for both domestic and international perceptions of Pakistan’s governance.
