Cork Woman Jailed After Bail Violations and New Offences
A 20-year-old Corkโข woman has been sentenced to prison after breaching her bail conditions and committing further crimes. Eve Guerin, of Kinlay House, Shandon street, Cork, appeared before Judge โฃJoanne Carroll at Bandon โขDistrict Court.
Guerin’s case originated in Clonakilty District Court, were she previously pleaded guiltyโข to four counts of theft from businesses inโ Dunmanway on Juneโฃ 9th. She stole items totaling โโฌ83.69 from Deals 4 U, Buckley’sโข Hardware, Costcutter, and โคSuperValu, allโข of which were recoveredโ in saleable condition. โคGuerinโข stated her intention was to place โthe stolen goods onโข her recentlyโ deceased father’s grave.
Following theโ initialโ hearing, Judge Carroll grantedโฃ Guerin bail, permitting a holiday to Benidorm, contingentโฃ on adhering to a curfew and regularly signing on โขat the Bridewell Garda Station in Cork while โa probation report was prepared.
Though, the court โlearned Guerin violated thes conditions, missingโ sign-in dates as july 18th โand breaching her curfew five times. On September 3rd, she was arrested for theft and assault at Mahon โคPointโข Shopping Center, specifically for stealing โขfrom Lifestyle Sports and โขsubsequently assaulting โขsecurity personnel by throwing a stolen item at them. Guerin pleaded guilty to both charges on the dayโ of her arrest.
Defence solicitorโ Plunkett Taaffe explained Guerin’s absences were due to traveling to โthe UKโค following a serious accidentโฃ involving her brother, who was admitted to intensive care.
Judge Carroll acknowledged the explanation butโ emphasized that Guerin โhadโฃ committed new offencesโ – theft and assault – while already onโ bail. Concluding that the court had previously shown leniency, the judge stated Guerin was mistaken if she expected further bail. Guerin received a three-monthโข prison sentence for eachโ of the four โขoriginal โขtheft counts.
