Massachusetts State Police Apprehend Driver Following Multi-Town Pursuit
DEERFIELD, MA – A driver was taken into custody sunday evening following a pursuit involving both Massachusetts State Police and Greenfield Police. The incident began at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Interstate 91 northbound, between exits 15 and 22, when a trooper attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver failed to comply.
The initial chase extended into Greenfield, where State Police discontinued the pursuit, handing responsibility over to the Greenfield Police Department. The driver temporarily evaded law enforcement.
A Massachusetts State Police helicopter was deployed to track the vehicle after it was observed re-entering I-91 southbound near Greenfield. State Police resumed pursuit, but again terminated the chase due to hazardous conditions – the driver was operating the vehicle without headlights or taillights, increasing the risk in the darkness.
The helicopter unit subsequently located the vehicle crashed into a cement post on Conway Street in Deerfield. Police then arrested the driver and transferred custody to the Massachusetts State Police.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver.
