A man has been arrested in connection with the deaths of four people found inside a Bowdoin, Maine, home Tuesday morning, state police announced.Together, authorities are investigating multiple reports of vehicles struck by gunfire on nearby highways, incidents they beleive are linked to the homicides.
The shootings and deaths have shaken communities in coastal Maine, prompting a widespread investigation and a request for public assistance. While police state there is currently no threat to the public, the interconnected nature of the events suggests a targeted and complex situation. Autopsies are underway to determine the cause and manner of death for the four individuals found in the Bowdoin home.
Three people were shot while driving and were taken to the hospital, with at least one in critical condition, according to state police.
“We’ve got vehicles that have been hit by straight gunfire all across that we’re getting reports on, so if anybody has holes in their vehicles, please contact us so that we can follow up with that,” said Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Keaten.
Keaten confirmed the victims found in the bowdoin home and those involved in the highway shootings are connected.
“A lot happened this morning between those two scenes and those are the people that we want to talk to, those people that were impacted by this,” Keaten said, adding authorities were continuing to work on several impacted scenes and gather more facts.
The four bodies have been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta. Authorities have asked anyone with information about the Tuesday morning incidents to come forward.
