NYU Shanghai Launches New Global China Studiesโข Minor, Reflecting China’s Rising Global Influence
Shanghai, China – As China’s role on the world stage continues โคtoo expand, NYUโข Shanghai is responding with a new interdisciplinary minorโ in Global China Studies. Theโ program, announced โtoday, aims to equipโฃ students with the nuanced understanding and critical skills necesary toโ navigate the complexities of a โrapidly changing worldโข increasingly shaped by โฃChina’s influence.
Beyond conventional area studies, the Global โคChina โstudies minor offers a holistic approach, examining China’s interactions with the globeโ and internal trends across individual, societal, state, and global levels. The curriculum will delveโข into the socio-economic,religious,cultural,and political transformations occurring withinโข China and their reverberations โคinternationally.
“China is no longer simply a regional power; it’sโ aโค defining force in the 21st โcentury,”โค says the program’s Area Head, an Assistant Professor ofโ Global โขChina Studies. “This minorโข isโฃ designed โคto provide students โฃwith the tools โto analyze and understand this dynamic,โค and to โprepare them forโ careersโ in a worldโ where knowledge of โขChina โคis increasingly vital.”
Minor Requirements:
The 16-credit minor requiresโ students to complete the following:
* โ Foundationalโค Course (4 credits): โขStudents choose between GCHN-SHUโ 110: The Concept of China, or another designated “China and the World” course.
* โค Electives (12 credits): Fourโ Global China Studies electives,โ allowing students to tailorโ their studiesโฃ to specific interests.
* Language Flexibility: Students โขcan fulfill โupโ to two elective credits with advanced or post-advanced โlanguage courses.
